hi,
I am not sure if there is a thread about this subject already, if so please can someone direct me to it? and if not, Does anyone have any recommendations for a sling or wrap that is particularly easy and convenient for breastfeeding? i am pregnant with my first baby, and hoping to breast feed.

Thank you all in advance :

I love love love my Maya Wrap its the adjustable ring sling - comes with a DVD and shows you tons of positions from infant to toddler!!! have used it for 3 kids about to be 4! even has a pocket about the size of a small wipes container, I put that a diaper my wallet and keys and I'm hands free at the store!!!! it also has a 'tail' part that can be used to cover baby or tuck under your breast for better positioning. the older kids have used it as a blanket or shaw, used it as a blanket at public changing table, used it when baby starts walking around their chest under their arms to guide them and pick them up when they fall!!!

I've tried a pocket sling, moby wrap, and back pack type carriers and found nothing as flexible, versetile, or less combersome - ok now I'm a commercial!!!! sorry just really love this sling!!!!

Tip - borrow before you buy if possible and see what YOU like best - ask the friend you're borrowing from to show you how to use it (be comfortable) and feel free to pm me with questions!!!!!

Gotta second the Maya Wrap...I wish I'd had one for the newborn days. It's working great for us the last few months, nursing a big boy (7 months old). Very comfy, easy to use and nurse in. And, love the pocket! I got mine used on Ebay after trying it at our local diaper store.

I also used a Moby wrap, and a mei-tai carrier, neither were as easy or comfy to nurse in as the Maya. Put me in the commercial Earth Momma!

I actually hate the wring sling for nursing. When my daughter was little it was all about the Moby and now that she is a toddler it's the Ergo. My kid objects strenuously to be forced to lie down in a carrier she wants to be upright and I just can't do it in a ring sling.

I love the Maya Ring sling for nursing and I think the Moby can work nicely too.

In any of my carriers it's taken some practice, but nursing works well in any of them!

In the ring-sling, she preferred to be held in the snuggle hold (I think that's what it's called? her facing in, upright, with her tummy against me). To nurse, I just loosened the ring and she was at the perfect level. Now she also likes to lie down in cradle hold, but like a previous poster, she detested it until I randomly tried it just recently.

The ergo works great and in a similar way. I just loosen the straps and she's at the perfect height.

My pocket carrier is mostly used at home because while it's convenient to just stick her in without making any adjustments, it's harder for me to nurse discreetly. But at home I don't mind who I'm flashing ;-)

Lastly, to make nursing in a carrier most convenient, I found that I need to plan my outfit a little bit. I have a few nursing shirts with hidden openings that are great (especially the ones that have a band under the bust area since it's easier to lift up). I also have a few nursing tanks that allow me to then lift up my shirt without exposing my stretchmark-riddled belly to the world.

During my pregnancy I kept an eye out for any and all inexpensive carriers and just got them all. I actually use all three, but wound up not using our older model baby bjorn at all. Anyway, it's been great having a choice. All the best!

It really depends on your body type and the baby's preference.

I loved my ring sling, it was easy to nurse in *for me* because I have a short torso and big droopy boobs. However, friends of mine with different body types preferred the Ergo and other more upright carriers because they had longer torsos and smaller boobs.

It's a trial-and-error thing, and it will probably change as your baby grows. If it doesn't work with one carrier, try another!
