Has anyone tandem-nursed through a pregnancy?

That's my whole question. Thanks.

I tandem nursed dd (my oldest dc) through 8 wks of pg that ended in a m/c. Fast-forward to now. I'm just 4 wks pg with baby #3, and my almost-two-yr-old ds is a nursing fiend. I can only imagine that we will be tandem nursing throughout the entire pg, or at least most of it. This pg was a surprise. The timing is a bit off for me because it's very important for me to keeping nursing ds throughout this coming flu season, but I'm worried about a drop in milk supply or a need to limit/quit nursing for other reasons (I do have a history of m/c... not sure if nursing during pg could be risky for me). Anyway, I'll be watching this thread with great interest!

What's your story mama?

Ok maybe I am confused.
Are you asking about someone nursing 2 while pregnant with a 3rd?
DD is now nursing once every other week or so now.
DS nurses all the time although I have recently nightweaned him.
Both DKs are looking forward to the baby bringing the milk back.

I nursed my daughter through my pregnancy with my son and had no problems. I was a little sore at times, but that's it. We went on to tandem nurse until my daughter weaned just before her fourth birthday. Do you have any specific questions about nursing while pregnant? I'd be happy to try to answer them for you.

Yes, and it sucked.

I'd also be happy to answer any specific questions if I can.

Nursed DS1 through DS2's gestation. So far 15.5 weeks along with DC3 and and both DSs are still nursing strong. We're in the process of nightweaning because I simply can't take the lack of sleep coupled with pregnancy exhaustion, but I don't foresee weaning any time too soon. (Maybe if I could ifgure out how to wean DS1 and not DS2 without devastating DS1.)

Not currently pregnant, but I tandem nursed my oldest 2 about half-way through my 3rd pregnancy and then weaned them both, at almost 4yo & 2yo. I tandem nursed for a few months into my 5th pregnancy and then weaned #3 @ almost 4yo and allowed #4 to keep nursing. I am currently tandem with #4 who is almost 3yo and #5 who is 9mo.

I tandem nursed DS and DD1 through my pregnancy with DD2, and then a few months of triandem nursing. DS weaned a few months after DD2 was born.

Yep, I tandem nursed ds1 and ds2 through my pg w/ds3. It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't fun either. My ds1 weaned (w/some gentle encouragement from me as he was down to 1 time/day) 2 months before ds3 was born and he was 5 1/2 yrs old.

Now I am tandem nursing 4 yr old ds2 and 1 yr old ds3.

I am currently nursing my 5 yo dd and 2 yo ds, and I am 20 weeks pg. Everything is fine so far. It is difficult to find info on tandem nursing during pregnancy!

Yep. I've been nursing since DS1 was born 4.5 years ago, bar 5 weeks, and am now TTC #4 whilst feeding #2 and #3 - my 1st tandem pair.

Tandem-nursing and nursing through pregnancy seem rare enough IRL that I had little hope of finding anyone who had actually fed TWO children throughout a pregnancy.

Thanks for sharing your stories - great work, mamas!

Let's see, I:

- nursed ds#1 through my pregnancy with dd and then nursed them both for about a year and a half

- nursed dd through my pregnancy with ds#2 and nursed both of them until I was about to have ds#3, then weaned dd and kept nursing ds#2 and ds#2 (both still nursing)

Minta, I won't say it was easy, but it is possible to nurse two while pregnant. However, I did find that during both times, my older of the pair was pretty ready to wean about half way through the pregnancy. I don't know if it was because of their age (both close to 4) or because milk dropped or whatever.

Well, I got a BFP this morning so looks like I've already had a go at tandem-feeding during pregnancy Let's hope it all works out OK from here. Thanks again for sharing your stories -- it's refreshing to know someone else has BTDT!
