subbing.

for friends kids i am making magic wands, which i thought i had a link to but can't find. It's a stick with embroidery thread wrapperd around the bottom to make a handle. i will probably use beads to make a couple of charms on each one. I am also making gnome hats for some and thinking of maybe making gnome beards to go with the hats.

for my kids i am not entirely sure. my three year old is getting a monster that i will make based on a drawing she made.

my 6 year old, clueless.

I just have to add one more Christmas gift to the list. I will be making tutus for all the girls too. I just made dd one for Halloween and it was super easy/fast/cheep. DD loves it, and it really came out full and beautiful.

Here is the link:

That fish pond idea is the best!!! That is totally what I am making for my friends' kids this year!!

I also really like this little play mat/bag that was posted on another thread: http://soozs.blogspot.com/2007/10/ev...its-place.html You could fill it with small animal figures, army men, fish, whatever (Im thinking of those Toobz animals that are always at the toy store)! I had a set of tiny plastic farm animals that I played w/ for hours and hours when I was in elementary school & it only cost 50 cents at a sale, lol.

I planned way ahead and bought most of dd's Christmas gifts right after Christmas last year during sales. One thing more I want to make for her, though, is a set of felt stew meat chunks to go w/ her carrots, potatoes, and tomatoes that she already has.

hope no one minds me bumpin this thread

for my kiddos,
i am making a large set of soft blocks for the baby, covered in appliques and patches from small baby clothes.
(i am also working on a set of 4" felt only alphabet blocks for my nephew's 1st birthday. i will also make a couple from a John Deere print to go with this set. i might make soft box for them also).
The 4" blocks left me with 8" squares of felt, which inspired me to make a soft abc book for the baby. i am going to do one letter per page and ABCs on the cover, with his initials maybe too, and then spell his name on the spine.
i will also make him a cloth ball or two.
i'll make these for his stocking: http://makeitandloveit.blogspot.com/...aby-rings.html and maybe this:http://patchyapple.wordpress.com/200...-toy-tutorial/ Want to do a set of puppets, too.
I am also making him shoes and matching hats for him and daddy, maybe brother, too. I would like to make slippers for brother and daddy, too and will also do a "family" tie dye batch and do matching shirts for us all and maybe boxers or hankies or other items too.

for my 8 yo i am making a bedspread sized quilt from his outworn flannels and pants and fun boxers. for actual toys for him, i am going to try making felted balls for his stocking. Also a cool bag to hold the marbles he asked for. i bookmarked this soft rocket http://thelongthread.com/?p=308 originally for the baby, but have decided to make it for big brother instead. It can go on his bed and the pocket will be for his small stuffed dogs. We had talked months ago about making a doggie rocket with paper mache and a dr pepper bottle, but we didnt get far with that messiness, lol...this would be cool instead. I will also be making him a colored pencil roll and regular pencil bag and some blank journals. and a hat from football fleece. His dad is going to try to make a scooter or scooterboard and i might make up some romper stomper stilt can things too. Oh, yeah...i want to also make him a beanbag chair for his room, or at least some cool floor/lounge pillows.
also want to make a stuffed dog for both my boys. also maybe a giraffe for the baby and interested in doing this: http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot....t-to-life.html for a particular monster drawing big brother did the other day.
for my toddler nephews i plan a shiny super cape (also maybe, a magic wand) for one and a magnetic fishing game set for the other.
the older nephews (8 and 9) will get colored pencil rolls and journals, maybe also felted balls or something else....not sure on these guys.
i have one niece who is 7.5 years old. i'm not sure yet about her gift either. if her brothers get pencil rolls and journals she needs one too, imo. but i am also thinking about these:http://lifewithmonkey.wordpress.com/...wing-tutorial/ I am going to make a set of these for me and depending how they turn out and work, i would like to make her a pretty set of these in a bag, maybe make some barrettes too.
I have lots of ideas for the big people as well, but i think this thread was under toys and dolls, so that's it for me.

Hey- I'm starting to think of some Christmas ideas now too... I love the ones posted! So crafty!

If you want to get a toy but not spent time crafting it, Playskool has some pretty great savings listed on their site right now. And they're toys are great--- I mean who doesn't love Mr. Potato Head?

I've done crowns like these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellbell...7605714095624/ and superhero capes like these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellbell...7602205298655/

This year DH is making walking blocks like these: http://www.atoygarden.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=420 and I'm knitting DS a sweater. I'm still thinking about what else to make him, maybe a doorway puppet theater like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hausfra...ne/3898870361/

Bendy dolls totally rock. I've made a few myself and have to say...it is addictive!

How do you make Bendy Dolls? Tutorial somewhere? What age would you make these for? I have some nephew and nieves that I'm stumped with...

for my boys (who are young) we're going to make a set of those "blocks" which are round chunks of branches. i want to also attempt a doll house like:
http://sweetsweetlife.typepad.com/sw...-tutorial.html
last year we did dress-up clothes and a play table, which was a coffee table (free on craigslist) dh painted.

for my niece, i'm thinking about a sewing kit. she's 5yo . . . maybe too young. i'm not sure. last year, i made her a "grocery bag" in the exact color (and shape) of a paper grocery bag, but smaller, and filled it with wooden fruit from the thrift store (remember when people would have a bowl of wooden fruit as decoration?). year before that, i made her fabric play food - a BLT and a banana.

for my nephew, stumped. he loves animals, but certainly doesn't need any more stuffed animals. last year i made plush letters spelling out his name, for room decor (he was only 2yo and really didn't care about more toys!). year before that, a set of bean bags - i think that was my most popular gift to date.

Here is an awesome bendy doll tutorial that I use

I think my daughter will be ready for them by about age three. Their heads are made from a wooden bead which could be choked on.

My 5yo has just started enjoying sewing and would love that. We use an embroidery hoop to keep the fabric taught while she sews on felt shapes or buttons. She also likes to use my sewing pen (the kind which you use to trace the pattern and then it washes out) to draw lines and try to sew along them with embroidery thread.

She has been given a couple of tapestry kits with to work on plastic canvas but she can't get the hang of those yet.

thanks for the tips! i can see her doing that.
