Do Snappi's cause too much pressure in crotch area for boys?

I've been using prefolds and snappi's on my son for 18 months now. Just recently, he's started grabbing his diaper and saying "OW". I've gotten him checked out by his pediatrician and everything seems to be fine physically. Is it possible for the snappi to be putting too much pressure down there and making it uncomfortable for my son now?

I'm worried...

I don't think a larger size snappi would work. It's the act of it being a Y shape that puts pressure right at the center of the y. Maybe I need to experiment with where I'm putting the Y part. No one else has had this problem???

I had a girl.. But I cut the Y part off of some of my snappi I got tired of the tail of the Y comming loose and getting caught on things so I jsut cut it off.

I've heard of folks putting the bottom of the Y off to the side as opposed to dead centre. Maybe that would help?

I don't think so. But if he's uncomfortable, than he's uncomfortable. Have you tried just trifolding the diaper or using snaps on the hips only to see if it improves things?

You can also fold the diaper differently so that it's higher in front, and put the snappi higher up, so that it's well above his penis. That's what I did with my DS. You'll need higher-cut covers to accommodate the different fold.

They will also work perfectly well if you cut off the third leg.

I don't use snappis but I do use a prefold with a wrap. My 2.5 yo son complains that he penis hurts in the morning and I'm pretty sure it's becuase there's too much bulk in the dipe and it doesn't leave enough room for his "morning expansion".

I used snappis intermittently with the girls but ds2 definitely does not like them. I am not sure if it is the snappi itself or the tighter fit that results. He is one to complain if his wrap cover is on too tight and we often have leaks when he is satisfied with the looseness. This is just another reason I wouldn't mind if he was toilet learning.

I agree you can probably get rid of the middle part of the snappi. If that doesn't work, you can always practice pinning!

I'm glad to come across this thread. My son - 3months- seems to be upset everytime I put his pf and snappi on. And sometimes when I take off a cover and diaper it looks like his parts were all crushed. I'm starting to pee and poo him on the potty to see if we can get some ec going. I'd love to hear more tips from moms of boys who cloth diaper.

When My Ds was in cloth I also cut the "tail" off all my snappie's as did my friend we both found it useless and it made the diapers to tight and they got caught on EVERYTHING! I also liked to have ds just run around in a prefold and snappie so I would notice the fact that the tail just would get unhoocked no matter what
