so i have like 5 really nice acorn squash, nice and dark skin, the plants have kinda yellowed up and gotten slightly crispy around the edges....should i pick them?? i cant tell if the plants are dead or just dieing...

also it seems like my butternuts and pie pumpkin plants are late maybe?? i planted them all at the same time with the acorns. i have no pie pumpkins yet, but healthy flowering plants and my butternut plants are healthy and flowering with one med fruit and one small fruit that are still growing and very green....any chance im gonna get anything from these plants this yr or are they too late? i live in lawrence ma btw.

I am not the squash expert in my family, but DH says to pick them when the vine attached to the squash dries out/goes from green to yellow/brown.

thanks! dd and i went out and picked them a little while ago, the plants were yellow and partly brown/crispy

dd was so excited to pick them and now she is playing with them, she dressed one up, she has one in a doll sling and the other 3 are in her baby stroller....cracking me up!!

My DD was playing with a purple cabbage last night and was very disappointed when I had to take it back and cut into it for dinner! Silly kids.
