Dashing finger less glove help!

this may be a totally stupid question & probably i am wrong but i just want to be sure..

i started knitting these last night..since i only had smaller needles i did the larger size and its all been fine till i came to the cabling part..now im confused. the setup is K4 P1 K4 P2.... but when you get to the cables it says CB(4sts)P2, k4, p1, k4, p2 twice.

i just don't see how it lines up! shouldn't it be CB4 P1 K4 P2... because otherwise you are purling knit stitches and knitting purls..or am i just looking at this completely wrong?

That makes sense. It looks like a typo. Because the stitches from the first line don't line up with the second (cable) line. Are you working in the round?

I knit these for DH and they turned out great!

I'm having a tough time visualizing the stitch pattern and the problem you're running into, but I will say that I knit the pattern exactly as written. I don't remember having to alter any of the written directions. Maybe try a few rows and undo if necessary? That's what I usually end up doing.

did you do the larger size?

i ended up frogging it and trying again. im using sz 7 needles now, so just doing the small or regular or whatever it is.. i already had to frog the cables once. my life is too distracting for complex knitting. arg..:

Okay, I think I've gotten it. I was pretty sure it must work, since it's a popular pattern, and I looked on Ravelry without finding corrections for it. I think what's happening is that you're skipping substituting in the directions for CB. If you look in the "Pattern Notes" section, it says
Quote:
Cable Back [CB]: Slip next 4 sts to cable needle (or spare DPN) and hold to back of work; k4, p1, then k4 from cable needle.
So, when the first cable round says
Quote:
First Cable Round: [CB, p1(2), k4, p1, k4, p1(2)] twice.
it actually works out to:

Slip next 4 sts to cable needle (or spare DPN) and hold to back of work; k4, p1, then k4 from cable needle. [P2, k4, p1, k4, p2] twice.

So it maintains the general "k4, p1, k4, p2" of the rib pattern.

You may also notice that things still don't seem like they'll line up, but it'll be okay (the same thing happens with the smaller size. Here's a page by the designer talking about that issue.

HTH!
