Surgery questions

My 21 month old is having some cavities fixed under general anesthesia on October 9th. The dentist office told me he can't have food or drink the day of the surgery, which isn't until 11:30am.

How late can I nurse him? Normally he has been nursing between 6-7am and then going all day without nursing. Is breastmilk a clear fluid? And how close to surgery time would you nurse?

They are also going to snip the membrane between his upper two front teeth that connects to his upper lip. I asked if that would interfere with nursing and was told no, but I know it will take about a week to heal. I'm afraid it will be too painful for a few days and he will wean himself.

Surgery: typically you can eat until midnight the night before surgery. so probably will have to skip 6am feeding morning of. No breastmilk is not clear liquid. It has to be totally clear. Even unfiltered apple juice is considered NOT clear.

Weaning: he is already 21 months, so even if he weans from this, you can be proud mom to have nursed this long!!! My guess is though he might comfort nurse, so hopefully he will go this route.

Good luck with going through with the procedure!
