What weight range do RRP covers fit?

I am planning on having my MIL help me make fleece covers for my baby due in Nov. I was interested in the RRP for fleece covers. It says one size fits most. What about newborn? I have big babies and don't expect her to be under 9 lbs. Would it fit at birth, and would it fit snuggly enough to hold a tri-folded prefold? If it needs to be sized down, I am clueless.

Also, I was reading thru some old posts here about RRP and someone said they just stuffed the pockets with wash clothes. Would one regular wash cloth work for a newborn, like the cheap ones you buy in bulk at walmart? do they really stay in place? If you used the fleece covers over these would you still have to pin?

I've used the RRP a bit but not as a cover, so I'll try to answer. You might find more help in the main diapering section, as I've noticed hardly anyone is posting here lately, but I think a lot of people use the RRP.

I've made a couple as a pocket, as directed, but mostly I've modified them into fitteds. If you make sure your stuffing doesn't come up too far, you have lots of room to fold both the wings in the front and the back down -- shortening the rise by quite a lot. I would think it should fit a newborn, and once the wings are folded back up I think later on down the road it would fit a lot of 30lb kids too. I think the same would apply to a fleece cover. I would just make one and try it. They make up in about a half hour, including the cutting out. If you do have to make modifications, you can easily shorten the wings, back or front, or adjust the rise by taking an inch or so out the middle crotch section - just cut the pattern and re-tape it with a half-inch (or whatever measurement) overlap. It's a pretty great pattern I think and so nice that it's free.

Thanks that was helpful. I am planning to buy extra fleece, so I guess if the first ends up too big then we can save it to grow into and size down some others. I suppose we can also compare it to some other covers I will be purchasing as I don't have the baby yet...lol

I had the privelege of cloth diapering my niece when she was visiting last month. At three months old, she could wear the same RPP that my 16mo was wearing. I've actually used the same RPP that I made when I first started cloth diapering. Problem is, I get tired of looking at the same pattern, so I want to make more. But I don't need them!

I have made them with the fleece on the outside and flannel on the inside and close them with a snappi (my husband won't pin).

I don't actually stuff mine. I just lay the trifolded prefold on the inside.

I recently made a few fleece RRP covers and they look large-ish for a newborn to me. I compared the size with some bummis newborn covers I bought and they seem more like a small sized bummis than a newborn. I haven't actually tried them on a newborn yet though...baby isn't due until Jan.

Great to know. That sounds neat about the flannel on the inside. Prefolds laid in are my plan, but I definitely want the aplix, which may limit the size range. I just ordered my fleece. I didn't want to go with the expense of the Malden Mills, totally negates saving $$ by sewing, but the stuff at walmart was not anti-pill. I went with anti-pill artic fleece from fabric.com. Says it is the equivilant of 200 weight. I also got some minky for some of the outsides.

I actually ordered a small sized bummis cover (and a thirsties duo) so that we could use it as a size guide. I chose to skip Xs and NWB anyway because my others were 10 and 11 lbers. So that might be perfect. Thanks

mine is 22months and 30lbs even and still wearing hers with lots of room to spare. i made the one-size fitteds and we stuff with flats. they easily fit under her medium bummis sww or fleece pants. i don't like using the pattern for covers because i don't have a snap press so there are no closures. takes too long to pin the diaper AND the cover for me. so we use pul covers over them.

Hello, I am trying to make some for my son too.

If we don't use a cover, and just fleece to make the diaper. How can it be waterproof? Would it hold up untile next diaper change? What do you girls do when you use cloth diaperS???? I am trying to avoid buying special fabrics, because it usually have to order online. I much rather buy some fabric in the store where I can feel it. Thank ytou
