Day 1 - already got diaper rash

Hello,

Yesterday was the first day we put DD2 into cloth dipes. We're using mostly Bummi's wraps and cotton dipes with bio liners. Her little bum is already red. Fact of life or should I be doing something else? I changed her frequently yesterday but still she is red.

This is my second attempt at cloth diapering a newborn. DD1 got a very BAD rash so we used disposables until she was older, then switched to FBs.

Any advice you can share with a novice cloth diaperer would be appreciated!

My son gets a rash when i use liners. I think they rub or something?????
hope that helps!

is there frequent pooping going on? gwyn had a rash pretty much the first two months of her life because she pood so often. i had to use a liner and keep her lathered up with cream. as long as you are changing frequently though, i cant see why there would be a rash otherwise, except for what the pp mentioned (ive never used those liners).

Maybe it's a reaction to the liners? Try without a liner, or with a different kind (fleece is a good option). We've started using Grandma El's rash cream, and it's worked wonders if you end up needing something. Good luck mama!

What are the liners made of? If they are disposable or any micro I would suspect that they are the problem.

Try the diapering without the liners -- one less step too.

Yeah, that would be my suggestion. And you probably know this and are already doing it, but I'll put it out there-- make sure you're changing as soon as possible after a pee, so that baby is not sitting in a wet diaper. This is a change if you're used to using disposables, because those can hold several pees.

What about the detergent u prep'd with? Could it be causing the redness? I noticed that when we spend a few days in sposies and then go back to cloth, my ds gets a little red too. But after a few diapers it goes away!

Is it an all-over redness or mostly between the legs in the wet zone? All over irritation could be the detergent or that Bummis covers aren't breathable enough. If the redness is not on the sides/hips, just on the front and/or back, then I would guess the liners are too scratchy or it's a poo irritation. Sorry mama, it's no fun when your baby gets a red bum. A couple easy changes to your routine could solve the problem, so don't give up!

How many times did you wash them to prep them before using them?
