The dr walks in, the one I really like mind you, and says "how are you doing?" I said "well, wishing I wasn't still pregnant! I keep telling baby that 'today would be a great day to be born!' and it hasn't worked yet." He patted my shoulder and said "not much longer...we can induce you next week if you want."
WHAT????
I stared at him in shock, to be honest! This is the OB that is KNOWN in this town for being natural birth friendly, he believes in a woman's body to birth a baby without assistance, he likes to deliver at the birth center, he has not forced a single test or intervention on me that I don't want (and has been okay with me declining several). So for him to offer me an induction...particularly at 39 weeks...just blew me away!!
I said "uh, no, I might not like being pregnant, but I'm not going to do anything medical to get baby out either. That's why I surround myself with a good husband, good friends, and a good DOCTOR knowing that they won't LET me do something like that in desperation."
Then he looked at my chart and said "oh wait, you're one of my natural moms (meaning I'm delivering at the birth center), you don't want an induction, then you couldn't have the birth center, and trust me, that's where you want to be." The rest of the appt he was his normal self, even answering my questions about post partum RhoGAM and agreeing to let me skip the dose if I choose to.
So it's like he walked in the room with his OB hat on, then removed it and had his midwife-like hat on after that.
Very weird.
By the way, the appt went fine, b/p is fine, heartrate is good (still heard that mystery second heartbeat, but we're pretty sure it's some sort of weird echo), weight gain is staying steady, baby's position is still perfectly OA. And I'm still "wet" today, having to wear a pad because of all the leakage. I *think* it's just discharge and not a slow leak, but either way I won't do anything. I certainly didn't mention it to him because I didn't want him to test it and proclaim it a leak and send me over for an induction
