October 9th. I was told they would try to find the heartbeat (I'm assuming via doppler?) If the can't find it does one just have to wait or do an ultrasound?

My first appointment was on Wednesday past. I was very quick to my surprise. The staff was friendly as usual and were happy to know that i would be "moving in" as they put it.

My main concern was if i would be able to try a VBAC for this pregnancy or if i would have to have another c-section, and i was a little dissapointed with my answer but decided ahead of time that i would go with whatever my Doctor recommended.

During the birth of DD I stopped dilating once i was at 5 cm's so i ended up having an emergency c-section because my water bag was already broken and we didnt want DD to go under distress. My Doc told me on wed that i would have to have another c-section because my birth canal is too narrow, hence the reason i had to undergo the emergency c-section and that no matter how much weight i gained it would still be the same size.

I do wish i that i had to option to have the VBAC but i guess ill have to start preparing my mind for the c-section.

I took a test to confirm and i was able to see the "sac"-everything else was great-oh and i decided that i'll be getting an epidural. Any thoughts on that?

My first appt is booked for Sept 15 with one mw practice and Sept 22 for another. I am deciding between the two of them (see homebirth forum here for my post as to why).

My first prenatal appointment is Sept. 18.

My first appointment is Septmeber 16th. We'll do an ultrasound to detemrine the number of babies and go from there. I'l have to book a prenatal appt with someone after that but who I book with will depend on the results of this scan.

I haven't even CALLED yet! LOL!

I talked to my midwife yesterday and she said that she usually schedules the first appointment around 8-10weeks so I have a little bit still. I'll schedule as it gets closer!

I go in on the 24th of this month to see the practice RN to give her my history.... but I don't have an actual "appointment" with the CMN to get checked out and whatnot until 10/22... and my EDD is 5/8. Does that seem kinda late to anyone else?!?

I called the birth center and they said that since I had my son there they didn't even need to see me before 12wks! Yeah that's not gonna happen. I may just go somewhere else in the meantime and then switch. I'm going to need to hear/see a heartbeat before I explode!

I hear you! DH and I are considering begging the RN at my 9/24 appointment to hear the h/b or something because I'm on pins and needles 24/7 over this bean sticking as it is!

The doppler can generally pick up a h/b starting at 10/11 weeks BUT it's not always the case--nervewracking for sure!!!! I'm not sure what the practice is at your place, but generally an u/s is scheduled around the time anyway to do the trisomy 21 scan and to check for other potential growth "defects."

It DOES seem late to me particularly given that you are a first-time mama and that can be so anxiety-producing. That said, it's not unheard of. Is your appt that far out b/c of schedule constraints? Can you be put on a "call" list if someone cancels?

I am not clever enough to figure out how to do multiple quoting--my apologies for the three different responses.

Epidural: i was very anti-epidural my first pregnancy. Doula and I eventually came up with a code word I would use if it turned out I wanted one. After 25 hours of labor I went into back labor in addition to "normal" labor and I could not take it anymore as I was getting no break from contractions: I would contract in my back, it would finish, then I would have the other type of contraction.

Anyway, I basically screamed out my code word and did get an epidural. It took me awhile to forgive myself for that but I have to say that I didn't have any of the nasty side effects and, b/c I could control the amount of medicine I was receiving, I still ended up being able to feel every bit of my labor. It also allowed me to rest for a few hours so I had energy to push for two hours.

I think if you can control the amount of additional medicine you are getting I would totally go for that. Even if you can't, if it's the right decision for you then it's the right decision, kwim?

And finally:

appt with nurse: 9/18
appt with m/w: 9/25

My first appointment is 10/16 with my MW, and my EDD is 4/30, so I will be 12 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. I'm not too worried about it, I wanted to wait long enough to be able to hear the heart beat. Also, we already met her once when we interviewed her to make sure we would fit well.

Looking at all your dates I was surprised that a lot of you are having your first appointment almost a month before me!
