Dr Appointments - Page 7

This has been driving me nuts since my Dr appt yesterday, maybe someone has an answer for me....
You know how Drs go by LMP to date the pregnancy? You know basically adding two weeks onto the fetal age? For example, my LMP was 8/9 making me 7wks 3 days. (Fetal age 5 wks 3 days). Did anyone else have the problem of the Dr using the fetal age (5 wks 3 days in this case) rather than the 7.3, they normally use when speaking of dates? Sorry if this is confusing, but they scared the hell out of me yesterday when she used 5.3 wks for the ultrasound.
They said everything looked exactly where it should be at that stage, but I'm still freaked out.
Help!

I've never had a Dr refer to my dates (with this or the last) as fetal age instead of the dates and adding the 2 weeks (I totally understood what you meant BTW). That's strange. Are you sure of when you O'd? I'm sure it's nothing, but I, like you, would have questioned it too. Can you call them and ask them? I'm sorry I'm no help mama, I would call them personally and ask what the deal is. I don't think you should get worked up (yeah right!) but I would call them and ask, why they used the actual fetal age and if they do that often or if that's their norm. UGH, I'm sorry, I suck at this mama. I'm 100% sure your bean is fine, but I'd be ticked they used that date too!!!

yea I have a problem with my dates too. my lmp was 7/28 but my cycle was pretty long this time around. My edd based on lmp was 5/4 but because I ovulated a week late I estimated it was gonna be closer to 5/11. (Im certain on ovulation because I used opk tests. My pos opks were on 8/17-8/19. dr estimated O day to be 8/19). But when I went in for my u/s the baby measured 7 weeks 1 day. based on babys measurements I was techinically 1 week 3 days pg on my O date... shouldnt I be closer to 2 weeks? Im a bit lost. I keep telling myself that it will be ok and baby will come when he/she is ready but Im afraid that since they moved my edd to 5/16, about 2 weeks difference from my original edd, that if baby comes on the "right" dates the dr will thing its actually early and might treat the baby like a premature baby... although even 2 weeks early is still term I guess but still.... Im confused too. Perhaps she is also going by fetal age... I need to ask at the next appointment.

I did ask and she said they use the "fetal age" (so 2 wks less than I am) when dating ultrasounds because "not everyone knows about counting from LMP". Either way, I'm worried considering it seems everyone sees a heartbeat at 7 wks but not necessarily at 5, YKWIM? So if all doctors are using "fetal age" then I can compare. Damn the internet

All the u/s I had done with my other two kids were always dated fetal age, not lmp. They are measuring fetal age after all, there's nothing to measure those 1st two weeks

Thank so much

I know, they just scared me after they couldn't find a heartbeat and kept saying I must have my dates wrong. Perhaps they should explain it since they had already discussed me being 7 wks based on LMP.
I think the whole dating from the LMP is ridiculous.
As I was, since I was charting and knew what day I Oed, it was even more frustrating.
When I had my son, I went in and they said I was 9 wks at my first ultrasound. I didn't know any better since I hadn't been keeping track = no stress!

WHOA!!!!!!! u guys just made me really think about this! Ok so when i went to the doctor he said that based on the size of the sac i was measuring 5 weeks and a few days, according to when i THINK my LMP was (which i think is pretty darn close) i should have been measuring about 6 weeks.

Soooooooo does this mean that i should be 5+a few days PLUS an additional 2 weeks at that point which would mean 7 + a fews days? im soooooooooooooo confused???

My office and the office's (each different offices, except w/B and this one) for my other 5 deliveries have calculated based on LMP and not O or fetal age, even though there's nothing to see, it's still (in medical world) part of your 40 weeks.

I went for my appt with my family Doctor today.........
1-apparently I should be using my LMP for dating? instead of my O date That gives me a due date one week earlier to which she responds - then when you're two days over due you can demand to be induced" (ya like that's what I want) so she skipped me from 6w 2d to - wow you're almost 8 weeks............riiiiiiiiiiiiiight ( I was charting BTW an o on day 21)
2) I should hurry out for the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it`s available (again..... riiiiiiight)

I also got my requisition form for bloodwork so I go first thing tomorro morning.

I agree it is screwy how they calculate the EDD.

My appointment should be interesting since I have no idea when my LMP was. I am still nursing DS and have had two periods since March, but I can't remember when they were. I do definitely know my conception date though.

Yeah, that also means that when you're 4-5 days overdue they'll start threatening induction. Drives me nuts.

If they would just be consistant it wouldn't be that big a deal YKWIM?
This is the same stinkin' doctor's office that went by LMP last time when I had never heard of it, now they use both without regard.

Is she serious about getting the H1N1 vacccine? I would think that might be harmful to the baby. And i dont know about u, but i DO NOT want to be induced again! It was HELL

My doctor told me there have been cases of pregnant women having H1n1 and then having still born babies.......anyhoo it's not for me

The funny thing about the EDD is with DS when I told her LMP she gave me a due date of Dec 7 but sent me for a dating ultrasound and lo and behold it changed my due date to the 15th (the day he was born ) I am so thankful to be going with a midwife this time.
