Swine flu vaccine - thoughts?

Thread Starter
I'm just curious what my fellow "preggo during flu season" ladies are thinking? I'm assuming I will pass on it - I've never taken the regular flu shot and have been pregnant in the fall before.

Anyone thinking of getting it? Definitely not getting it? Have any interesting information for or against?

I'm definitely not getting it. I will be taking normal reasonable precautions - washing hands, avoiding sick people, etc. ETA: oops, not in the January DDC, saw this thread and just clicked into it. LOL

Absolutely not. I don't regularly do flu shots either and don't plan on starting now. I'll just focus on building a strong immune system. Actually I do have a little interesting piece of information. A friend mentioned to me that coconut oil is a good supplement to use for H1N1 prevention. Here's an article about it. I figure it can't hurt and the recipe for the coconut smoothie sounds delish!

No, I won't be getting this.

I'm a no, too.

Paul brought this up at the OB's office a couple of weeks ago. OB recommends it to everyone, but hadn't mentioned it to me before this time because he knew I'd politely refuse (I love that he knows me!).

I volunteer in an inner-city school and have sick/coughing kids all over me, but I'm fine with that. I just wash my hands and feel fine.

I really think I already had the swine flu this spring when I was just first preg. Our pediatrician just sent around an email telling us not to panic because he now realizes most of our kids already had it in spring (I love that man - he's also anti-circ!). Kasper and I were both really sick, but we got better with normal resting. I took tylenol to keep my fever down because I heard a high fever is bad while in early preg.

I hear that swine flu is more dangerous the more pregnant you get, but somehow I'd rather take my chances with the forces of nature than get that shot. I always worry with newly-developed drugs and vaccines...

Doesn't make sense to inject yourself with something untested for safety and effectiveness.

Totally agree with those against the "vaccine". Be sure to get plenty of Vit D - someone already mentioned Cod liver oil - but don't forget about good old sunshine too if you can!

I got the flu shot last fall/winter because I had no immune system (thanks to chemotherapy).

Anyway, this year I feel great, and we are just going to take 'regular' precautions - hand washing and avoiding very sick ppl.

cheers,
charlene

I am undecided. I don't have enough info on it yet. I work in healthcare and get a regular flu shot every year, but only b/c they are passed out to us by employee health at work, for free. lol (maybe that's not the best reason) I have not had an adverse reaction to it, but I have not ever had the flu, either.
My MIL, however, is strongly against it. According to her, swine flu was around in the 70s and there was a vaccination that made people go crazy, or sick, or something, idk.

No, I will not be getting vaccinated as I just don't feel vaccines are safe (esp this brand spankin' new one).

I work with small children adn am a mom to a highschool student so I'm extra careful with handwashing and naturally upping my immunse system.
