I just got chewed out, LOL!

I was eating lunch, and I sent a text to my doulas and my midwife (who will act in a doula capacity if I birth at the birth center) and said "my Chinese doesn't taste right today, could that be a sign of labor?!" My midwife texted back and said "it just means it was a different chef." I wrote back "bummer, lol, I was hopeful!"

Then she called me and told me to STOP thinking of every little thing that could be a labor sign, STOP telling baby I want him to come out, and start instead telling him that he can stay in as long as he wants, and to start enjoying these last few days/weeks with him all to myself. She said that I need to change my attitude and start trusting my body more!!

I had to laugh, because I was JOKING about the Chinese food comment!!! One of the ways I'm "passing the time" until I deliver is by detecting changes in my body. I don't think I'm letting myself get too anxious about it, at least not yet

So I told her "yes mother" and she laughed at me and said "no seriously, just calm down and relax and you'll have that baby before you know it."

I have been chastised

i'm glad y'all are close and have a great sense of humor. the reality check is good too, because while i'm sure it was in jest, part of you is probably secretly wishing that is WAS a sign of labor

personally, i could use somebody telling me to relax and enjoy the time to myself. maybe that includes getting off the freakin' computer and getting outside?

Yeah she does!

I warned my friends at the beginning of this pregnancy that I don't handle pregnancy well, that at the end, all things natural go out the window and it's a good thing I have a good husband who reminds me that no I really don't want an induction, and I really can do it. Because right about now I would almost schedule a c-section even!! (not really, I would never do it, but I admit to moments where the thought crosses my mind that it woudl be nice to have a date and have it all planned out!)

I don't think my friends believed me (they weren't around when I had my last two, or rather I wasn't around, we lived somewhere else) and they only knew the non-pregnant Samantha, the patient Samantha, the "I believe in things going naturally" Samantha

perhaps your MW is the one who is being a bit uptight, sheesh i mean she has to hear about pregnancy, labor, birth and be around all kinds of mamas in varying states of this whole process 24/7, YK? i think it's her.

Since I'm now officially overdue, I plan to treat EVERTHING as a sign of labour!

She was (mostly) being light-hearted about it

I know, right?! I'm not overdue, I can't imagine going past my due date since my other two were born in my 38th week!! I'm just...antzy...excited...nervous...and wondering about every little twinge!!

Speaking as a doula, I sure am glad to be reminded of what it is really like to be literally just sitting around uncomfortable waiting for baby to come. It gives me SO much more compassion or the women I will deal with in the future that are overdue or having lots of contractions. But still I will probably say the same things I have said to them, the same things my midwives and friends are telling me. It is just so different to have to endure this when it is your body and you want it back!
That being said I would be annoyed if my clients were texting me about their chinese food Sorry if now I am the rude one!

Oh I know, she and I are friends, have been for a while, I would never text that to my OB, for example

I read it and thought of the uptight secretary at my midwifes office.: She found out I paged my midwife (I have hyperemesis and needed diclectin....I was actually in a study for excessive vomitting) and she YELLED at me....and told me to only contact my midwife in an emergency. I was picturing her reaction to my texting her about my food! LOL.
My daughter was due on Sept 26...her due date! I see your due date is one day sooner!
Here's hoping you have a quick labour!

: I was just going to write a similar post. My advice to my client friend or not would be take a chill pill. Babies come when they want to. If you were overdue then I would be more open to some things. But third babies have a mind of their own. They are very different from 1 and 2. Let your baby take you on the journey. He will guide you through!

Me too...as far as how I "pass my time" these days. I enjoy detecting all the changes. And my mw is also a good friend and would probably laugh at my attepts at humor at this stage in the game, followed by the "take a chill pill" lecture.

I ALMOST called my MW to ask if feeling jittery was a sign of labor. . . but then realized I drank WAY more than my usual for caffeine today!

woops! No wonder I spilled my pills all over the floor earlier!

Yes, exactly, this is how she took it, she wasn't annoyed in the slightest, but there was still the undertone of "don't get too impatient". For the most part it was good natured joking on my part, and good laughs by both of us She even suggested trying a little reverse psychology, telling the baby that I don't WANT him to come out until AT LEAST 40 weeks

the nurses at the infusion room told me that today...to stop thinking of the baby and start a project or something and then baby would come when i wasn't ready so i am working on that.
