Overdue and not engaged yet...need encouragment

I have not posted in a few months but need some encouragement.
I am planning my first hb. This is my fifth baby and I am 6 days over due and he is still not engaged. Last check was 50% and 2cm. Had NST 2 days ago and passed with flying colors. I need to here stories of engagement during labor or other tips to get him down. He is in LOT/LOA position and some times moves to the right but not for long. Any ideas and encouragement will be greatly appreciated. This is new to me. All my other babies were down low for awhile.
THanks
Stacy

I've been told that it's common for a multip mom to not engage until just before or even during labor. What's important is baby passed that NST perfectly!!

I don't know if there's any way to convince him to engage, but there's lots of positioning techniques on www.spinningbabies.com to encourage him into a good OA position. Try reading through that page, maybe it'll give you some pointers.

Hang in there!!!!!!

my baby wouldn't engage either - my doula suggested staying off thebirth ball and away from squats because they can close the diameter of the pelvic inlet (they open the diameter of te pelvic outlet but shrink the inlet). leaning forward at the waist is supposed to help open things.

Yes, I also recently found out that after the first one, you can't expect the baby to drop and engage. I didn't know that (and this is #3 for me) so I'd been expecting it. I can't really remember what happened with my second one, or if I even thought about it then.

Don't worry mama. Your baby knows the right time to be born.

After your first baby, the rest usually do not engage until labor begins. Heck sometimes it is just before you hit ten. It is a non issue, heck you are on your fifth!!!

My last baby (number 4) was not engaged until during birth. I know this because I had my membranes stripped about 90 minutes before labor began and teh midwife had felt that the baby's head was still high. I was overdue as well. Not to worry!

My midwife said the very same thing after seeing how discouraged I was that my LO's head was at -2 when she checked me.
