Nursing ON CUE

I was at a LLL meeting last month, and someone mentioned that she doesn't feed her babies 'on demand,' but rather 'on cue.'

I thought this was a much more gentle way to look at meeting your babies needs and wanted to share it y'all! Doesn't is sound so much more pleasant?! Especially if you're talking to mainstream people who tend to think of babies being manipulative.

I like "on cue" better. It makes me feel better because lately it doesn't seem like DS is demanding milk (he's 2.5 months). When he wakes up during the night I assume he's hungry. He doesn't cry usually, just stirs and grunts. But when I offer, he goes to town obviously like he's hungry. During the day its more of the same. He doesn't ever usually demand because I figure he's hungry when he wiggles more and is less content. Then I offer and again he goes straight to work. Sometimes I've wondered if he's forgotten how to ask- assuming crying is the only way. But then I know he is gaining weight just fine and he's happy, so it seems I can read my baby's cues not demands and that is a perfectly valid form of communication.

I have always liked the term "nursing on cue". So true about the demanding though, lol!
