anyone else in our group who already had their baby and is now tandem nursing? just wondering how it's going for you.
AFM, my newborn has a good latch, and has started to rebound on his weight. he's a peanut though, only 6 pounds at birth; dropped to 5 lbs, 8 oz, and is now up to 5 lbs, 9 oz.
my DD, 3, is enthusiastic about nursing as well. i can hear her gulp. i try my best to give DS first shot at the milk. obviously it takes him much longer. sometimes he falls asleep nursing. then i do let DD finish them off. figure she will stimulate the breasts to keep making more milk.
i've been eating oatmeal. last night DS was on left breast, and right breast was outright dripping with milk. i took this as a very good sign.
my nipples themselves are tender however. i might have gotten a little lazy with DS's latch. it might not be perfect, although it is good enough that i know he is getting a good suck. (he pees and has had about 11 poops so far -- 3 days old. the poops are beginning to transition to "BM poops" -- loose, lighter colored and "seedy" looking).
as for DD, her latch is good of course, but she can be a little rough/non-chalant with handling my breasts, such as turning her head to read a book while attached, standing on tiptoes while attached, moving around while attached. acting like a monkey while attached. i've been telling her that it hurts and that she should be very gentle with the "milk."
how's it going for anybody else?
ps: DS is a pretty good sleeper so far. he's asleep right now, in his own bassinette. last night he was all about wanting to sleep with me. i need to wake him pretty soon... just so he can nurse. i know it's important to do it, and i will. i am enjoying a few rare moments to myself first however. i will take him in bed with me overnight again, to promote more nursing.
