Symptoms mean contagious?

My mother took the regular flu vaccine and is now "sick"- tuffy nose, low fever, achy, etc. Does this mean she's contagious?

She was going to pick up DD for the day, but I cancelled because I'm paranoid.

Most common diseases out there are contagious during the early symptoms, though I can think of some exceptions. If she got the inactivated flu vaccine, then it will not cause the disease; the mist can be used in people up to 50 (i think?) and that can cause flu illness. She may have also picked something up from the doctor's office.

Thanks for your info. I keep reading that online, but those are the same sources that recommend pregnant women get the flu vaccine as well, so...

She works in a hospital so there's no telling if her illness is from the vaccine or from another pathogen. Then there's also the Swine flu patients in ICU. Who knows, but she's convinced it's just from the vaccine.

The fever can be from the vaccine, even the inactivated one, but the stuffy nose and severe aches and other symptoms added up seem like it would be something more, but if she got the live flu vaccine then she could get it from the mist, so that is possible. And if she's working with people who are infected, then I guess that adds another angle of possibility.

She got the shot, but isn't even sure *which* vaccine. When I asked her which one she got, she said, "oh i think the swine flu vaccine" but I'm not aware of them giving it out yet...even to healthcare workers? That's my mom for you! :

Yes. With a fever there is a pretty good chance that she is contagious, whatever the cause.

Thanks!

I err'd on the side of caution and asked her to wait until 24 hrs after she was symptom free. That ended up being yesterday evening and everybody was happy (but more importantly, not ill).
