But they did choose to call it Operation Abraham. If they called it Operation Prometheus or named it after some other figure from one of the already-dead religions, you might say they were just giving it a catchy historical name, but Abraham is a figure that some people still believe actually existed, from scripture that many people still revere religiously.

PETA being from the mostly-Christian US does not automatically become a Christian outfit, but if the had an initiative called Operation Mary-Mother-of-God I'd have to wonder.

Circumcision is not a secular Israeli phenomenon, in that the Israeli Medical Association does not endorse routine circumcision.

Calling it Operation Abraham could just as easily be Muslim or even Christian for that matter according to your logic. My guess is that it's called that because that is the first recorded circumcision anywhere. No religious affiliation.

ITA!

They named this project after the father of ritual circumcision. If they really intended it to be non secular in nature, they should have chosen a name like project Schoen or project Kellogg. (though I think Kellogg was religiously looking for a illness for his cure as well)

So let me be clear on what people are implying here. That an organization's chosen name can be argued to nullify the entire body of Jewish theology regarding to whom the requirement of circumcision does and does not apply? That the organization is a front for a rogue group of Jewish people who oppose the restrictions regarding to whom the requirement applies and are out to surreptitiously remove the foreskins of the world for religious reasons of their own invention? That a Jewish medical professional's ability to work as, for example, a urologist, making the same recommendations as other urologists, should be considered automatically religiously suspect? What, exactly?

Oh, ok. So it's not a secular American phenomenon, either, as no major medical group endorses routine circumcision?

I think they named it "Operation Abraham" because he was directly associated with circumcision. Aside from certain people, who the heck knows who Kellogg or Schoen are? Most people think Kellogg = cereal.

ETA: Great post, Liquesce. I don't see their point either. Abraham was an historical figure to many - a religious figure to some.

I think it is creepy in the extreme for ANYONE to promote the circumcision of anyone else, especially when the research is so questionable. As if it isn't hard enough to dispel intact bias, wait until our sons are portrayed as 'HIV spreaders' who are refusing the 'surgical vaccine'. :eyeroll: I do think that Circumcised men have an interest in defending their alteration by whatever means necessary. It is one of two possible reactions (the other being accepting that you were harmed and attempting to restore) and unfortunately it is the more common one. I think that is the impetus for the research in question, and is what compells these men to attempt to influence the behavior of others.

The name is so disturbing, the graphics are distrurbing. Why is everything okay as long as you are only doing it to Africans?

And I had no idea you were on here Ron Low! We LOVE you in our family!!!
