hard water- what to do

at least i assume thats what it is...i just moved to san antonio, and the water is awful. it leaves a white film over every thing coming out of the dishwasher, most noticable on the plastic stuff. its also cloudy coming out of the faucet.

im in a rental, so i cant do anything permanent, and money is beyond tight right now. any suggestions?

We have hard water. Some pots, tea kettles etc get chalky buildup so I boil some water with a bit of vinegar in it. The stuff comes right off.

I don't have a dishwasher, but I'm wondering if you can add vinegar to the rinse cycle/dispenser. Or you could always put hot water and vinegar in the sink and let dishes soak for a while.

When we think of it, we keep a brita pitcher filled in the fridge for drinking water.

We have hard well water. I put vinegar in the rinse aid compartment of the dishwasher and use Ecover tablets for dish detergent. I don't have a problem with the dishes coming out white, though. Hope you figure it out.
