making inserts

i just bought some used wonderoos pocket diapers. i have 15 of these and 10 medium size fuzzibunz. i hav 10 fuzzibunz inserts too, but i need inserts for the wonderoos. is it cost effective to make them myself? i just use the micro fiber ones. should they be 2 or 3 layers? my fuzzibunz are at least 3 and work great. we never have to double stuff, even for long naps. (i use disposibles at night or i change him once in the middle of the night). did you make your own inserts? what did it cost you? i would like to make 20 to hav extra because they take forever to line dry and it would be nice to have enough to rotate. should i just buy them online? where did you buy your micro fiber? how much did you need for the inserts you made? okay, i think you get the idea! thanks!

I made my own out of washclothes and flannel. You can buy a pack of 18 washcloths for like 5$ at walmart, or find them cheaper at a dollar store. Get some flannel,or use old recieving blankets, and cut the flannel slightly bigger than the washcloth. straight stitch then turn and top stitch...you don't even need a surger! number of layered flannel is up to you, but I've heard of others sandwiching the washcloth between a few layers of flannel. When you put it in the dipe (I use prefolds with a snappi) just fold it in 3rds. Good Luck!

I don't use microfibre personally, but I have read on this board lots of times that you can get the blue microfibre towels in the automotive section of Walmart, Target, etc. for really cheap. You may not even need to sew anything depending on their dimensions, you might just fold them.

You can do it, and I have sewn mf inserts, but I hate sewing the stuff and my machine hates it, too. It's very difficult for my machine to handle sewing 3 layers of the stuff. I often use hemp or bamboo inserts now and they are much easier to sew, plus more natural.

If I really wanted mf, I would by the mf towels from walmart or whatever.

You can also use just regular bamboo bath towels and cut them up with 2-3 layers. That way you get the extra absorbency of bamboo and the antibacterial properties as well.
