There's a toothpick stuck in my leg

And I so wish I was just kidding. Just got back from the ER. A friend came over tonight to help me unpack. We were putting together furniture on the floor. As I'm nearly 32 weeks now, getting down to the floor is quite a challenge for me. I generally inch as close as I can and then just plop down. Apparently there was a toothpick on the floor, and when I plopped, it managed to insert itself into my leg, my right shin, about halfway between my knee and my ankle.

THE WHOLE TOOTHPICK.

Well, minus one of the 1/8" pointy ends. And guess what else? THEY CAN'T GET THE FREAKING THING OUT. It's lodged in too deep, through muscle. I think it's hitting my bone. And I can I just tell you...IT FREAKING HURTS. I'm going to have a pretty good sized scar just from what they did fishing around in there trying to get it out tonight.

Apparently the toothpick will eventually dissolve, seeing as it's wood and all. But I have to go see an orthopedist on Monday to see if he thinks it's in a scary enough spot to HAVE SURGERY to remove it. A TOOTHPICK!!!! I'm all for getting this thing out of my body personally. It hurts like a mother.

Of course there's a very real risk of infection either way, which would suck for my LO. So now I'm on antibiotics and they gave me Lortabs for the pain. They're not really working. At all. Ugh this is so awful. My mobility has recently become severely limited anyway just from being so pregnant. Now I can't move my leg without the toothpick jabbing something. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?

And wanna know what one of the docs said? (A bunch of people ended up streaming in and out of my room cuz no one could actually believe a toothpick could do all this.) "You think THIS is bad...just wait 8 more weeks till you try and have a baby! It's like taking your bottom lip and pulling it over your head!"

What an idiot. He was very pretty. Maybe too pretty to ever have to learn how NOT TO BE AN IDIOT. I explained to him that at least that was productive pain and it ended in a baby. This was pain from a TOOTHPICK.

Thank you for listening to my continuing sagas. I'll be in bed if anyone needs me. I seriously cannot believe this. (And just a huge boooooooo on my UAV SpermDonor right now. It would sure be nice to have someone to help out.)

Holy cr@p!

I'm so sorry!!!! That sounds just utterly beyond awful. I hope you feel better soon. And I hope you can one day laugh at the sheer, bloody, awful randomness of having an entire toothpick stuck in your leg.

(And was this toothpick sort of balanced on one end that it went all the way through your muscle to the bone???)

that's crazy! though, i once had to go to the er when i was 4. i lodged an uncooked spaghetti noodle into the roof of my mouth. how i did that is beyond me but it happened!. they should just remove the damn toothpick though, no point in letting it sit there even if you have antibiotics, could cause more problems leaving it in than taking it out.

OMG vegasgrl, i am so sorry that happened to you!!!

I really hope they are able to get it out with no trouble!

OMG!! I can't believe that. I'm surprised they weren't able to get it out. I hope you won't have to leave it in there, but hope you wouldn't need surgery either. Ugh!

I broke my toe when I was pg with ds 1. Never broke a thing in my life and I was on crutches 7 1/2 months pregnant. Ridiculous.

The toothpick was either sitting straight up, or I hit it just perfectly mid-plop to give it deadly force. I seriously can't believe this is happening.

They couldn't get it out because it's really, really deep. He made an incision 2 inches deep, 2 inches above, 2 inches below and an inch to either side of the puncture wound. NOTHING. Plus I'm gonna have a funny looking scar.

Can I call uncle on life please?

Well, crap, that just sucks.

Did you offer to pull the guys lip over his head??

Who came up with that anyway?

I hope they get it out! I wouldn't want wood dissolving in me either!
Holy cow girl! I can't believe how much that must hurt. Take it easy!

What an idiot...yeah, you should have offered to pull his lip over his head.

And btw, I've got to ask since I STILL can't figure it out....what the heck is UAV? I mean, I get the gist, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it stands for!

OT, but omg how odd, I did this right about 7 months into my last pregnancy! Except i had no health insurance at that time, so I had no crutches! I actually had to crawl to the bathroom and back from bed for about a week, til I could limp with any accuracy :

With the painkillers not helping much, you may want to see an accupressurist, there's alot that can be done for pain (some accupuncturists are supposed to be excellent and willing to work on pregnant women, but I doubt if you want extra punctures right now.)
