What kind of water filter?

I would like to get a water filter that filters out flouride as well as other things in water. I have a faucet Brita filter right now but I don't think that filters out flouride. (we get city water)

My DH is a full time grad student so money is REALLY tight, so we can't afford an expensive system.

What do you use to filter water? What would you recommend?

The NYT has been investigating water quality, the EPA, etc. Really, really, really outrageous. Here's some suggestions re: home water http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/us...20water&st=cse and just in case you're not enraged/terrified http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/13/us...20water&st=cse . Augh!!

Anyway, I was looking at mercola.com last night and he has some recommendations. We're currently using a Brita filter too, which doesn't get everything, def doesn't get fluoride. I think you are going to have to spend about $200 to upgrade to something that will take out fluoride.

Berkey water filter for us, we use both the black filters (standard) and the white filters (additional order) to remove floride.

I bought a model77 filter that filtered out fluoride. It's not cheap to start ($77 ) but the refill filters aren't bad. (the filters are here.)
The customer service was awesome both times I ordered from there.

Thank you so much for this rec. :
This is exactly what we need over here, we have great well water, except for the high calcium-which causes problems to those who drink it unfiltered for years. So I have been buying expensive bottled water from who knows where. I can't wait to call them today, only prob is I will have to get it shipped to our friend in the states and have him bring it down... I don't want to wait! I love that it doesn't hook up to the sink.
