Talk to me about zone 7(b) - Georgia...

What are the major challenges? What kind of dirt is in Georgia (typically) to work with? When are those frost dates again? What kinds of bugs/blights/etc. are there that need to be dealt with gardening-wise?

I'm just so used to where I live (across the country - been here pretty much all my life) that I haven't a clue about other places.

I'm not sure about frost dates, but as a south Ga girl I can tell you it's highly likely you'll be seeing some red clay It does depend on whereabouts in GA you'll be, of course. Hopefully someone can help you out with frost dates, or you can check the county extension office(or their website if they have one?) if they still have those?

Clay. Squash bugs, broccoli eaters. Stuff getting burned in the hot afternoon summer sun. Surprise late frosts. I got up too early this morning and have had no coffee.

Crud, I was hoping for no red clay. I've heard horror stories of it.
Most likely nearish/northwest of Atlanta if that helps any... I don't even know where the county lines are - seems there's like 4 counties we could possibly end up in.

Good to know that the garden may need partial shade... frosts, well, considering we've had snow up here in May/June before, I think I can figure that part out.

Ah ok, nw of Atlanta is a fairly different world than what I know of GA.... I am a native of Albany in the south west corner You'll probably still find red clay up there though, sorry lol. The sun IS harsh, and the temps get absurd ( I was in middle Ga, about 1.5hrs south of Atlanta, in August and it was 106 So definitely plant where you can score a bit of afternoon shade.

Good luck with your move
