A Few Wool Questions

Thread Starter
I have one wool cover so far, and a pair of longies on the way (can't wait for them to get here!)
First of all, how often do you wash your wool? I read somewhere that you don't need to wash after every use, but what if it has pee on it? What about just rinsing it off? Also, is it okay to put in the washer or should I just hand wash it? And do I have to buy special wool wash, or can I use my regular detergent?
Secondly, how often do you lanolize? How can you tell if it needs to be lanolized?
And if anyone wants to suggest websites to buy wool things from, that would be great too.
Thanks!

If there's just pee on it, you can just air it out. It doesn't hold a smell. It will smell fine when it dries. It's better to hand wash it with a soap such as Eucalan, although some wool can be machine washed on gentle. You can check the Green Mountain Diapers website for more information on washing and lanolizing.

You don't need to wash pee out--just air it out. I alternate three wool covers during the day so each one airs out for two diaper changes then gets used again.

Wash them when they get poop on them, or when they retain the smell of pee. Wash with wool wash. I'm excited about Sudz n Dudz products but haven't tried them yet. A wool wash with lanolin means you don't have to lanolize as often, but you should lanolize when the covers no longer seem to be working--the wetness leaks through. That's what the lanolin prevents.

I handwash with woolwash. Some wool is made to be machine washed, but most not.

It's pretty easy, since you don't have to do it often I use only wool and can't wait for my baby to be born so I can get back to it
