Ok, call me shallow, but I would really like to wear my normal clothes again. I cant seem to remember how it all went with my first, so remind me how long is it supposed to take? I am 17 days pp and dont seem any where close to fitting in my jeans yet. (I don't own a scale, so just go by how my clothes fit). I did gain 37 lbs so am not expecting miracles, but I haven't actively been trying to lose either. How is everyone else doing in this department?

I might faint if I fit into my pants at 17 days pp! Ha ha.. I gain weight like crazy when I'm pregnant though. I started off at 122lbs, I ended my pregnancy at 175lbs, I'm now 145lbs (5 weeks pp). My regular clothes are a size 4 and right now I'm wearing an 8. I have been steadily losing weight, but I expect that I won't be back to normal for another 3-4 months.. It took me 4-5 months to lose the pregnancy weight with my first.
I buy new pants after I have a baby. I like to have some clothes that fit me properly until I lose the weight.

I have to say that i've never fit back into my pre-baby pants... even when my weight is less than it was pre-baby, my pre-baby pants don't fit well through the hips/thighs.
I'm 3 weeks pp and have maybe another 10lbs to go before I'm back to my pre-baby weight, but when I went through my dresser the other day I couldn't get most of my pre-babe pants over my hips, let alone fasten them comfortably. I've had to buy "new to me" pants after each baby and I think this time will be no different. But I agree than it's nice to have a sort of new wardrobe after pregnancy.
ETA- I've gained different amounts in each pregnancy... ~75 lbs with the first, ~28lbs with the second, ~37lbs with this one. I don't try to lose weight until about a year pp. Until then I just eat healthy, keep my normal exercise routines, and breastfeed. Around a year I focus my diet/activity a bit more and I generally end up about 10lbs lighter than I was pre-pregnancy. But again, those pre-babe pants never fit right!

It usually takes me months to fit into my pre-preg "fat" jeans and longer to fit into my skinny jeans. It doesn't matter how much I gain either because it has varied greatly with each pregnancy. I'm like Clay, I don't focus much on losing weight until the baby is close to a year old. I just nurse and eat when I'm hungry. My body likes to hang onto an extra 10 lbs while I'm nursing and from what I hear that is pretty common.

I've been in my regular pants since about 2.5 weeks pp. I only gained about 16lbs, and came home from the hospital only 4lbs over my pre-preg weight. I started wearing the stretchier jeans I have, and now I can wear almost all of them (4.5 weeks pp). But I hate maternity jeans with the fire of a thousand suns, so I was determined to wear my real jeans ASAP.

I was considering trying my jeans on today. I'm anxious to get into pants that button. But I'm worried that it will be uncomfortable on the incision.
I am considering going and buying some transitional jeans if mine don't fit. I'm guessing that my body shape is going to be different for quite a while even though I'm 4lbs above my pre-pg wt at 10 days PP. I figure it took 9 months to get into this shape, it will probably take quite a while to get back to a new normal. I'm guessing that my pants probably fit but would look horrible - can we say muffin top?

This is why I love skirts, they are much more forgiving
I actually was able to wear some of my skirts up to the day I delivered. I do have to say that Saturday I found out one of my bigger fitted pencil skirts fits!!
: I actually wore it to our outing to the LA County Fair. I don't know if I will fit some of the other pieces any time soon but that was a nice ego boast

I came home in my Pre-PG pants but I gained 11 pounds and lost 23 so far (I am not tiny at all, I was almost 200 lbs before birth and now near 170).
Every person is different, take your time, get some comfy new pants that fit you now! Enjoy. Take care!!

I'm way lighter then my pre-pregnancy weight and none of my pants fit yet. Until the last few days, my hips were too wide. I noticed that my maternity pants and larger underwear for pad-wearing have been falling down more frequently and sure enough I can get my jeans up and buttoned now. There is still the issue of squishy belly fat and stretched out skin to contend with though- I have a serious muffin-top in my pre-pregnancy jeans at the moment!

I never stopped wearing maternity pants after my first child. I was going to try to lose more weight, but instead got pregnant again. Now I'm lighter than I was before even the first pregnancy, but don't have any non-maternity pants that would fit me because I got rid of all but my favorite pieces (which were from even lighter days) when I moved cross-country last year. I think I have about 25 pounds to go before what I saved will fit.

It's taking a little longer for me this time, even though my weight gain was almost identical to my first child, week for week, pound for pound. 38 or 39 lbs, I think. I think I've lost about half that and I'm feeling discouraged because I can't even fit into my "transition" pants from last time.
I probably won't shop yet, but will wait until I start back to work part time in mid-Oct. I need clothes that look professional, so if I don't fit into my real clothes yet, I'll go shopping. I want to feel confident and good about myself, and find some "sass" before I'm back in the real world!

I went to salvation army and while dh watched the kiddos I tried on easily 40 different pairs of pants.
I found three pairs of non-maternity pants that fit! OK, so one is a super soft flowing tencel fabric with a drawstring and the other two are denim with those little elastic sections in the waist (sort of a few inches of elastic over each hip?) but they're not designed for pregnant women so yay! I'm not familiar with the brands, but they're comfy and should fit for however long it takes to get back into my existing clothing.
Oh, and although they're not super high waisted, the cut of the waist/the elastic means no muffin top! So not sexy super pants, but not mommy pants either. And since it was half off day the whole thing (three pants, two long breastfeeding tops) came to just a few pennies over 10 dollars.

MAN. I want to be able to find 40 pairs of pants even remotely close to my size when I go to a thrift store. I'm forced to buy new becuase honestly, I am lucky if I find even ONE PAIR in my size (16-18). I don't know why, but plus size clothing is REALLY hard to find secondhand. Actually, anything over a size 10 is hard to find ime.

I range from 10-14... the majority of the pants I tried were 12 or 14. (or "L" for some brands) There were a lot of 16s though so you'll have to come visit!
I dunno... our salvo has a huge selection of pants. Almost no dresses however and maybe a half rack of skirts, but row after row after row of pants. A big selection for children, and lots of shoes, but little houseware and only a single bookcase of books/games. I've always wondered who decides on the "balance".
It's a college town so maybe "pants" are the thing?

Not that I'm surprsied. I'm still up 20-25#s from my pp weight (gained 50ish). Hopefully in the next few weeks I"l be able to ditch the maternity pants!!
