So, DH is slowly coming around to the idea of cloth diapering. Our (Hee, my) basic idea is this:

I go back to work at 3 months, and by then we will need to transfer to AIO's so that daycare will use them, otherwise stock up on a zillion covers because they require a new cover with each diaper change. DH is a bit reluctant to the cloth idea, but as long as there are no pins involved, I think he will come around easily.

Problem is, the BG AIO 3.0's seem like they will be way to big for an average size newborn (DD was 7 lb 9 oz, long and skinny), so I figure I will need a transitional newborn package.

What do you ladies think of this package? Enough, too much, overkill?

No, I don't think that is too much at all. You will be able to use the prefolds for other stuff after the baby grows out of them. Or maybe even upgrade to the bigger size prefolds so you could use them longer? I only used fitted, so I don't know how the next size up prefold would work on a newborn, but I would think they would work okay.

For newborn, I had 25 fitteds and 6 covers and I wish I would have had more covers for sure. Now we have about 40 diapers and the pail always gets full before we use them all.

Agreed, with the pp, not too much at all. If you size-up to the infant size, it will be a little bulkier on a newborn, if that matters to you, but you'll be able to use them for a longer period of time. The other nice thing about the infant size is they fit perfectly in pockets (and you get a little more absorbency than the newborn) and my infant size prefolds are the only thing I use to stuff ALL my pockets (I have a mix- kickernappies, fuzzi bunz, mommy's touch, swaddlebees) and the prefolds work better and absorb more than ANY pocket insert I've ever used. So if you decided to use pockets for daycare, you'd definitely get full use out of those smaller prefolds. But if you prefer AIO's, you'll still be able to use the smaller prefolds for burpcloths/washcloths for baby cleanups.

I wish I'd seen that package before dd was born, because it actually looks pretty good to me- a good selection to try too.

I think the package looks good. I'm glad I had nb prefolds - my ds was 7lb 3oz, and the infants would have been too huge at first. Now at 5 wks, I prefer infants, but I can still snappi the nb's on if I am low on dipes. They are definately small now, though (the nb size).

I've been using Thirsties covers, both the original in xs and the duo wrap and both fit well still. Both were a little bit large to begin with, when we were still dealing with the cord stump. After it fell off it was a piece of cake. btw, I weighed ds2 today and he is 11 lb 12oz now, if that helps for sizing.

good luck and enjoy the babe!
