It is so refreshing to see Australia on the right track with this. The fact that the RACP can look at the same evidence as the CDC and come up with a completely different take on it, just shows the power of culture.

What Australia does makes a difference for us here.

Quite true. It is so clear that even now, perhaps more than ever the compulsion to circumcise is a social, not a medical, one.

Great article, thanks for sharing. Now only if the US could get on board.

SO far I think only America is even considering changing recommendations due to this, right? I totally agree that culture has SO much to do with it.

glongley, it's the power of culture and the influence of money. I don't think you can have an honest discussion of circumcision without talking about the money generated and the long trail that it travels - from the fees for the procedure, to the sale of foreskins, to their end uses.

Along this line of reasoning is the Major Concern the medical establishment has with protecting themselves against law suits. Today more than ever, the medical establishment must justify some reasonable amount of medical justification for the continued circumcision of baby boys Even if they don't necessarily agree it needs to be done for medical reasons. This is because the medical associations and their members who continue circumcising are at an increasing risk of being sued. The harm and damage us intactivists and children's rights activists keep screaming aloud is getting the circumcisers very nervous when they continue to amputate the normal healthy prepuces of our little boys.
