There must be quite a range

I was just thinking that babies walk anywhere from 9 months to 15 months (and beyond) and the same for talking, just to name two. So there must be an equally large range at when a baby would be an EC graduate. I don't think that occurred to me before! But how could there not be a range with this, as with everything else? I'm feeling better about my baby being different from the ones in the books!

Yeah, there definitely has to be a range. And also, other developmental milestones, I think, will play a part in when a child will reach potty independence. For example, a child who learns to walk earlier will have an easier time getting to the potty when they need to, and therefore have less misses. Likewise, they might be able to get to the potty, but not quite have the coordination to turn around and sit down on it until they are older (this is kind of where we are now).

Huge range.

Where I lived in Asia, it was about 18 months to 30 months for girls, longer for boys.

"a child who learns to walk earlier will have an easier time getting to the potty when they need to, and therefore have less misses"

They might be to busy walking to go. Some children literally crawl over to the potty and ask to go on it. It is a social, physical, and emotional milestone, though, and that does increase the variation. My own child walked long before she was independent. She never wanted to use walking to help her use the potty- she liked the connection of me taking her, even if she decided to go.

i think in a lot of ways the EC relationship is a lot like the nursing relationship. there are kids who self-wean at 2 yo, others who continue nursing until 6, 7, even 8 years old. that's a huge range. EC isn't as big a range as all that, of course, but in so many ways i've noticed my EC relationships to be like my nursing relationships.

every single parent-child relationship is unique, as well as the individual development of each child being unique. one of the many reasons i love EC -it has given me insight to other characteristics of my kids' personalities.
