moby to mei tai?

does anyone know if it is possible to convert a moby wrap to a mei tai (using additional fabric for bodice of course)? I bought a moby when baby was first born and it was ok.- took a long time to put on. if you have links to a pattern, that would be great or if you know someone who is "sew" talented that could do it for cheap, that would be best...thanks

No, because it's stretchy and a mei tais is made with non-stretchy fabric. You could probably use it for the outside panel of the mei tai, as long as the inside panel is a sturdy and heavy weight fabric. I'd not used it at all for the straps...too stretchy. You need solid straps with a mei tai, so no stretch.

I agree, I don't think it can be done -- at least not safely. It's just not the right kind of fabric. I think you're better off just buying or making a MT from the right kind of materials.

You can always try selling the Moby on Craig's List or at Kijiji or here on the Trading Post or at The Babywearer's FSOT and putting the proceeds towards a MT. The latter two are also good places to look for good deals on gently used MTs.

The DIY forum at The Babywearer has a ton of great info on making your own MT if you can sew -- it's work, but it's not too terribly hard, especially with the great, free tutorials out there.
