I used to get it from Frontier - but I don't see it available anymore. Where do you get your pure shea butter from?

I am not really sure, but maybe it has to do with where the shea is harvested? Shea butter, depending on where it is harvested, has a different texture. Maybe also the age of the shea butter? I use the kind from Organic Essence, but it is also on the spendier side. I've bought some from Agbangakarite, but like the Organic Essence better for body moisturzing. (I use the other stuff for making deoderant.)

Yeah, I hear ya on the $$ issue, but I got some from agbanga karite - alafia - in whole foods and I was less than impressed. It was not nearly as creamy and non-smelly as the purely shea. The purely shea is creamy not really oily like the other and it does not have a smell at all. The allafia brand had a distinct odor, even the unscented, and it was not organic. I liked very much that it was fair trade, but my kiddos didnt even like the smell when I would go to kiss them at night. So, I am sticking with purely shea. It is unrefined, orgainc, and not gritty. But, I TOTALLY hear ya on the $$. Thats why i use coconut oil with it - to make it last longer.

Wow really?! I thought that unrefined shea butter was supposed to smell? I agree with you, I'm also am not impressed with Alafia's shea butter. I had ordered mine online and it was white and looked like a hard cream, I prefer the yellow kind that looks like it was scraped right off the nut. lol I finally was able to get mine from http://www.hosiaonline.com for 5 bucks. Theirs is unrefined and they sell both kinds of shea butter..and they smells like it too. but like i said I never knew unrefined could be unscented. Maybe when i save enough money I'll check out purely shea. Do you mix the coconut oil with it and apply to the skin?

if you go alafia's parent site, you can get the pure, unrefined shea. www.agbangakarite.com

if shea advertised as unrefined didn't have a smell, i'd be suspect...i have never sniffed an unrefined that didn't have a very natural, nutty, slightly smokey smell...and i have worked with A LOT of shea!

Oh no! PLease dont tell me what I have been using is not the read deal!!! Seriously, i love purely shea. It has the necessary organic certification, though it does not say fair trade - wish it did. I also dont like that it is packaged in #7 plastic, but i LOVE the creaminess of it. And, when I say unscented, I meant that it didnt have any added scent like lavender or anything. But, it certainly does not have that off-putting scent of the alaffia I got at WF. Now I am questioning...

I went to purelyshea.com and they say that their shea is 100% real. http://www.purelyshea.com/shop_unscented.html But i'm sorry 20 bucks for 3.5 ounces?!! No thank you sir. I like my shea hardcore, that smells and looks like it was scraped right of the calabash! lol Why is their shea so expensive? I get mine for 10 bucks a pound that last for months.
