mastitis and abx- how long "lumpy"?

I've had mastitis twice in the past (most recently about a year ago) but avoided abx. However, I currently have a 3 week old and I developed mastitis over the weekend. Unlike in the past it simply didn't respond to anything I tried... so Sunday evening I started abx. My major symptoms are gone, but I'm curious...

Although the swelling is down and the pain mostly gone, there are several lumps (similar in feel to a plugged duct) where the swelling was and the breast in that area is still bright red. I've been continuing the traditional mastitis cure/prevention tips and am massaging this lumpy area in the shower and while nursing but I don't recall this sort of "lingering lump" from my other bouts with mastitis.

Has anyone else experienced this after treating mastitis with abx? How long did it take before they went away? It's been almost 48 hours since I started abx with another few days to go. I don't think it's an abcess since it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did before...

Thanks!

Hmm, I had mastitis about three months ago and I took abx as soon as I could get them! I had no idea there were other remedies (other than massage and warm compress/shower) I felt like the walking dead! You GO for having managed it without abx twice! ANYWAY, I had some lumpiness where it was bright red for about four days. I didn't get abx until the second day of symptoms starting. Anyway, it went away, I just kept up with what you are doing, the massage, etc. Feel better soon!
