i'm looking for something with articles i can really get into that are more than a paragraph long. i enjoy looking at fashion, cooking, & gardening mags, but i feel like i'm done in 15 min. i like vanity fair overall, but some of their subject matter is BORING sometimes.

try the sun- its a literary mag with short stories. there was a thread like this posted not long ago in the media forum. there were some good ones in there too.

I was going to suggest Vanity Fair until I read your last line, because their articles are so long and dense.

What about something like Wired? I'm not a techie, but I find that magazine really interesting most of the time.

My personal favorite magazine is Cook's Illustrated, and they have awesome articles that accompany every recipe that tell you, in depth, the 30 different ways they made the recipe and why the ingredients they chose in the ratios they chose work the best. I find it fascinating, but it's still a quick read, and obviously geared only towards people who enjoy cooking/baking.

Victoria has articles about fashion (but mostly things that look, well, Victorian, ), travel, food, gardening and classical literature.

Well, this is niche but you said you like gardening (and cooking) - The Mother Earth News. It's about sustainable living. You can see if the online content interests you: http://www.motherearthnews.com/
I find their website kind of cluttered and hard to navigate, but the point is the content, and of course the magazine is not laid out like the site is

i do love mother earth news, i just got frustrated because we are in a suburban townhouse setting right now, so i couldn't make much use of most of their articles.

I always look forward to Real Simple. They usually have some interesting articles. Have you ever read Brain, Child? It is a parenting magazine, but is very thought provoking!

ditto Brain, Child

I love National Geographic. That's probably not what you're looking for.

I'll have to find Brain, Child. I've heard good things about before...

Gourmet sometimes has more in-depth content, and I think it's just a generally excellent magazine.

Harper's is rich in long, thought-provoking, intelligent articles -- for the last few years, though, I've found it too consistently depressing to pick up.

I think you'd love the New Yorker. And we get Smithsonian and it's got a good mix of travel, history, art ... most of the pieces are on the short side compared to the New Yorker or Harper's, but it's definitely not a magazine where finishing an issue takes only 15 minutes!

i love Wired, and Mental Floss!

I second The New Yorker. They always have at least a few great, longer articles in there, with lots of other smaller pieces of interest. I also enjoy "The Week". The articles are very short, but it has a nice mix of international news, editorials, celebrity gossip and random snippets.

We subscribe to Mother Earth News. It is really a good read in our house and I reread them over and over. Gardening, cooking, building, raising animals.

I really like Psychology Today and Mental Floss.

I liked it until they wrote a pro-circ piece. Then I canceled my subscription.
