Noo! I have the flu... and a newborn!!!

DS4 is only one week old, and I caught the flu! The boys' school had sent home notices a couple of weeks ago that it was going around. DS1 caught it, but it has been fairly mild. A very low-grade fever and a cough. He's almost over it a week later. DS2 had a low-grade fever for two days but no other symptoms. I started feeling crappy today, low-grade fever and a sore throat.

I'm terrified that I will pass this on to my new baby. Help!!! What do I do? I'm using hand sanitizer like crazy, nursing as much as I can, resting, fluids, Emergen-C, Superfood smoothies.... What do I do if he catches it?!?!? ACK!!!! I'm freaking out!

DDC crashing!

Just keep nursing as usual. Your milk will give your baby antibodies. If your DS does catch it it will be mild. I have been sick with my DS and just kept nursing him and he's never had a problem.

Feel better!!

What the pp said. I think though if he does catch it and gets a fever your supposed to call the Dr. right away. But not sure if that would apply since you would know what he had.

It's actually good that you're sick. Okay, well, it's not *good* , but it's far better than if everyone in your family *except* you got the flu, b/c then you couldn't pass on antibodies to your little man. Just keep on nursing, it's the best prevention possible. And I'm sorry you feel yucky and hope you get well soon!

Keep taking care of yourself and your baby will be okay! I hope you have some help with your other little ones, mama! Get well soon!

rest up, and keep nursing! as far as I have read your bm is the best thing for him. It is a blessing you all got the flu already, maybe you will all be super healthy for the rest of the season!

The thing I wonder is if it's really the flu if the fever is low grade or if you don't have a fever. The reason I am wondering is because I had a sore throat on Sunday, then nasal congestion and a little bit of a cough, but it seems to be a post-nasal drip kind of cough, and not a deep chest cough. I am so confused.

My OB said the swine flu totally takes you down for a couple of days and you really feel horrible. She was really sick. But if this was our version of the flu, I would love to know that so I can relax a little. I *think* what we have is a cold. Maybe I'll ask my doctor. I wish the info on this were more clear!!

I haven't had my baby yet, by the way and am starting to feel a little better.

Oh no! Keep nursing, drinking fluids, resting and eating good food. You could also try Ocillocccinum (for yourself) http://www.oscillo.com/

You're doing all you can, if he gets it, he gets it - he'll be fine though

I know both Charlotte and I have a cold right now, and I'm just giving her every drop of BM I have and basically holding her 24/7 (she doesn't want to be laying down - too hard to breath, yk?) It's pretty mild for her though, she's just stuffy/runny.

Hang in there - hopefully your dh is around and can help out. I know my dh took a sick day yesterday and it helped TREMENDOUSLY for me to be able to get a little rest. Lord knows I needed it.

Oh mama, you poor thing. I have been really, really sick for the last 2 days (I just had my first solid food), so I can't imagine feeling this way with a wee one. I never realized how bad violent puking at 39+ weeks pregnant is!

Look at it this way - at least you are getting through this NOW versus wondering all winter about it! There are positives.

Interesting, I have heard that the swine flu is most often very mild compared to the regular flu. If you have other complications, it can be bad, and it certainly affects everyone differently, but if the news reported on cases of the regular flu, the entire country would always be in a panic.

Thank you, everyone! Your words really helped!

I'm feeling okay today, no fever, and the sore throat is the same. Hopefully this will be mild, like what the kids got. DS4 is a little mucousy today, so we're just nursing as much as we can and taking it easy. DH goes back to work next Weds, so I am taking advantage of his help!!!!

Hey Cymbeline! I glad to see you back online but sorry it took you being sick. You poor thing! Here is was terrified I would be laboring while sick last week and we are still hanging on...I never announced baby's name and thought I would leave that up to you. Keep nursing, resting and taking it easy as that will be the best for both you and baby boy!

When I had to go to O/B sick last week, they treated me like a freaking HAZ MAT CASE! I had to wear a mask and was ushered very quickly through the practice. Very humiliating! They shove this lovery swab (as if you needed anything else swabbed) up your nose and test you. I politely let them know that they could do that but they were not and I repeat WERE NOT giving me that shot that was just developed this year!
