Ahhh...diaper service out of business, I've never done this before!

I was so excited to CD! I researched covers and made my purchases all to find out that the diaper service went out of business. That was how I was going to get started, and then I would go from there. I'm overwhelmed and thinking about just going disposable again. I'm imagining mountains of laundry and from what I've read and heard it sounds complicated. Soaking, striping, detergent rashes...yikes!

Talk me through this. Is it as overwhelming as it sounds? The out of business service is selling their diapers so I could buy from them. Or would new ones be better? Help!

3 loads of laundry per week, and if you use diaper service prefolds, there will be no soaking or stripping, and no detergent rashes unless your baby's skin is very sensitive, in which case you would have the problem regardless, until you found a better detergent. You've already done the research on covers, just buy the diapers and wash them on hot.

After doing some reasarch and having CD one before (but not a newborn) DH and I have decided to do the kissaluvs rental program from here http://www.nellsnaturalbaby.com/Newb...ntal_p_15.html with likely the add on package which will include 6 covers that can be used beyond the NB stage 24 cloth wipes detergent and rash cream.Well go from this to the complete package from motherease. I'll add on a dozen prefolds in appropiate sizes as needed..
My wash rountinue has always been simple cold rinse Hot wash with a small bit of detergent and and extra rinse cycle set. Dry in dryer. put away...

I haven't cloth diapered a newborn, but I can tell you that it's not as overwhelming as it sounds. You should be able to get by with a few loads of laundry per week, and it's not as bad as other laundry for most mamas. In fact, a lot of us enjoy diaper laundry!

no worries - stick with prefolds - little chance to screw up there!! stripping and wicking - more problems with pockets and AIO.

and heck yeah - save on the PF by buying them locally - the most $$ part is shipping because they cna be heavy. They go through newborn and infant sizes so fast, every bit of savings will help!

Thanks for all the info! This is seeming more doable. I'm considering the newborn rental from Nell's (free shipping and money back ) or buying from the local service.

Another question... do I need a pail liner and one of those freshener things? The diaper pail will be in my small bedroom so I'm not sure how to contain the dirties until they're washed.
