magazine rec for 80 year old grandma

Hi! My grandma's birthday is coming up and I was thinking a mag would be a good idea for her. She loves to read, cook, go to church, and do crosswords.

I think she already gets Better Homes and Gardens, Oprah, Readers Digest. She lives pretty far away so I can't physically give her a gift.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe a fruit basket or flowers, but that is off topic.

Thanks for any magazine ideas you have thanks! I was thinking maybe Rachel Ray, but I've never read it. Maybe All You b/c of the coupons (we are a frugal family!), but I've never read it either.

She may enjoy Victoria. It has beautiful photography and very nice pieces about living a gentler life celebrating lovely things. There is a mix of homes, gardens, recipes, and some travel as well. Here's the link.

A basket or flowers are nice. A pretty scarf or gloves aren't too expensive to mail, if you wanted something more lasting.

Another nice idea is to use one of the on-line photo book places. You can load up some family photos, choose your layouts, and then have a copy sent directly to her. There's a variety of binding options (ring coil bindings, hard bound, etc.) and sizes, so it doesn't have to be expensive.

Hope those ideas help!

What about National Geographic?

My Grandmother (84) loves Southern Living (cooking, decorating, etc. but geared for the South), Oprah, Martha Stewart Living, and Catholic Digest.

I couldn't decide so I sent her a gift card. I stink lol. But she is very practical and will like it. I included a card with a note and some coupons. I think she'll be glad I remembered, b/c usually I forget.

For Christmas we do those online upload calendars every year. Maybe next year I'll send flowers. I find giving gifts to be difficult. Thanks for the ideas.

The Reminisce magazine is awesome, my grandparents all subscribed and loved it.

Another magazine that a lot of older (and younger!) people like are the magazine from the state they live in. My state has a magazine that is put out 6x a year called Kansas! and it has photographs and stories about the state, current stories, historical stories, articles about people, business and the government, in both past and present settings. I suspect every state has something similar.

If she's very practical, don't send flowers. I made the mistake of sending flowers to my husband's frugal grandmother one time, and she called him to tell him not to waste his money on something so stupid that was going to die in a couple of days and then what was she going to do with that cheap, empty vase?!
