Ultrasound question...

We are UCing again. Haven't decided if/when we are having any prenatal care this time. But we do want a u/s about 20 weeks.

Any of you make your own ultrasound appts? I've always had my midwife do it for me so I am at a loss. Who do I call to ask about them and is there anything specific I need to say? I don't even know how to google it! haha!

Thanks in advance!!

I told our family dr that i needed one scheduled because I was seeing a midwife and they don't have the ability to book them in our province.. I am not actually seeing a midwife for prenatal care but it was the only way i could figured to do it. We are in Canada though so maybe it is different here

I know we can make the appts. it's just there are so many places and from what I understand, different types of ultrasounds, even at 20 weeks. Hmmm...

Yes, if i am understanding correctly there are the "medical" ones where they go down a checklist of measurements and things they are supposed to make sure are visible (4chambers of the heart,3 vessel cord, bottom of the spinal cord correct ect.) and then there are just the "fun" ones where you get to see baby and find out gender.. things are so much different in the states i dont even know where to tell you to look hehe.. but i would think you want the medical one though i know some UCers just have a peak at one of the "fun" places

Some doctors won't see you that late in your pregnancy (I've heard). You might be able to get by, by telling them that you've just moved here from another place, get the u/s and then don't go back. But that's up to your personal comfort level. Personally, I don't think it should be that difficult to get prenatal care, no matter what your situation! But I'd do whatever I had to do, to make sure my LO was safe. That's my opinion.
