How do you know its wool?

I bought a gently used super cute knit wool soaker on a used diaper resale website. It is adorable. I washed it, lanolized it, and put it on ds. within a few minutes after peeing, the cover soaked through. He only had it on for maybe 5 - 10 minutes. So why could that be? The wool is super super soft and doesnt feel a lot like my other wool covers...could I test that it really is wool?

The only "home" test I know of is to pull off a fiber and burn it. If it smells like burnt hair, it's wool. If it melts & smells like burnt plastic, it's acrylic.

You may need to "season" your new cover by using it a few times during the day and lanolizing it every few days. Sometimes thinner wools need that.

I would try lanolizing it again, unless the burn test proves it's not wool. Burning wool will smell like hair, burning cotton will smell like paper.

The first soaker I bought ended up being knit from COTTON. Talk about a bummer. Soaked through exactly like you described. Even acrylic wouldn't necessarily soak through so quickly, because it doesn't really aborb moisture. You can even make soakers from acrylic , but they have to be washed after each use, unlike wool.
