Chunei for very heavy baby

I have a 25 lbs 8 month old, who is incredibly STRONG! I try to carry her around the house in an ergo, but she does all sorts of gymnastics in it, which tips me off balance. I have tried to tighten the sholder straps, so she has less levereage, but she still manages to rear back and tries to tuck herself under my arm, etc. I didn't start out wearing her much because I thought I had a little postpartum prolapse, and was too paranoid to lift anything(doc says everything is fine).
Anyway, would a chunei work for a very heavy baby? 25 lbs is a lot for an infant, expecially when they don't help(ie, lean forward). It's much easier for me to carry my 25 lbs 2 year old niece because she clings to me! I don't know if this matters, but I have a long torso and am very thin. Any suggestions would be great!

Sounds like you might need a carrier with a long body panel and a tighter fit. A mei tai would be easy to get a snug fit since you can tie it as tight as you want. Just try to get one with a longer body. I'm sure you could find a SSC that would work for you too if you liked SSCs better.

I bought my Chunei a month or so ago, but won't get to use it until this babe is born in a couple more months, so I can't offer firsthand advice. I will say, though, that it seems like you can get a nice, snug fit, and the weight is distributed over you, so it seems like it would be a good choice.

There are a couple of people on here and TheBabywearer.com who are very knowledgeable about Chuneis. I'm super-excited to finally get to use mine. Sadly, right now, I can't even get it around me to pretend.

I have not tried the chunei personally on my toddler (about 33lbs) but my DH said it was not too bad. That's because the chunei wraps baby snugly to your torso so she becomes like part of your body. And some mamas have commented that it's comfy enough for toddlers too. You may want to check thebabywearer for more reviews and pics.
But wow 25lbs for 8 months is big!
We are struggling with slow weight gain and how i wish my 14 mo was heavier.

Thanks for all the info! I went ahead and bought the chunei. I just have a good feeling about it. I want to start a support group for mamas with giant babies! We can all get together and complain about our backs (LOL).

Just speaking of bigger babies, a torso carry is much easier on your body. Of course there's no pressure on your shoulders and you can get the babe in nice and tight.

I ordered a Chunei and have used it a few times. I like it, I like how it distributes the weight, and I love torso carries. BUT... because the Chunei does not weave over and under the legs, my DD straightens her legs and tries to squiggle out. I'll just put my hand back there and hold her, but if it were something like a wrap or a mei tai than you could weave around the legs so even if they flailed about like crazy, they wouldn't go anywhere.

I love the look of it too though, it's super cute. I got the Lucky Days print.

i have been wearing my baby in a chunei on my back since she was about 9 months. she wasn't quite that heavy, maybe 20 pounds at that point? she's just about 25 now at 16 months.

i *love* my chunei. it is hands-down the carrier that makes my kids feel the most weightless. the body of the carrier isn't as long as some, but my LO is quite tall and still fits comfortably length-wise in it. and she loves to snuggle down in it and cuddle, even when in a MT, pod, or SSC she likes to take her arms out and lean.

you will love it! which one did you get?
