Yep. As it turns out, I get it for free if I go to my doctor's office, and they only offer thimerosol-free flu vaccines. My sister and I are going in at 3:30, my mom is going next week and my dad already got his. Between that, the emergen-c and the hand sanitizer, I think we're good this year

I am in my first trimester and went to my OB and got my seasonal FLU shot today. I have never had the FLU shot before, so naturally I was nervous. My OB had strongly recommended it since I am pregnant (which is considered a HIGH RISK category).

I am traveling on a cross crountry flight next week and I was thinking it may be a good idea to get vaccinated since I will be in a plane for over 6 hours. Altough, I see that it takes a few weeks to build up immunity so maybe it wasn't as great of an idea as I thought?

After reading all of the posts, I am nervous that I made an uninformed decision and that I should not have gotten the vaccine!

Will it harm my baby? I don't want to do ANYTHING that could cause harm.

I asked the nurse of any side effects and she said that I may feel achy and flu like for a few days (of course, this was after I got the shot she told me this). I am feeling extremely tired this afternoon and my eyes and throat are very scratchy. I am assuming this is related to the vaccine - maybe my mind is playing tricks on me?

I will NOT be getting the swine flu vaccine simply because it is being rushed to market and has not had the proper testing.

Advice on the flu shot I got today...?
NERVOUS!!! (whats new??)

What's done is done so there is no use dwelling on it. Which brand did you get? I would hope it did not contain thimerosol. My advice would be to throughly research flu shots in general and in pregnany before getting another one. Flu vaccines have not been proven safe for pregnant women or their fetuses.

Flu vaccines fall under the FDA's Pregnancy Category C for pharmaceuticals. This category indicates that animal reproduction studies have either shown harm or have not been done. It further indicates that there are no human studies to prove safety.

Any package insert for a flu vax reads the following: "Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with Influenza Virus Vaccine. It is not known whether Influenza Virus Vaccine can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Influenza Virus Vaccine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed."
