are progesterone shots suppossed to hurt?

I got my first (in a series of 6) progesterone shots last night. the shot itself didnt hurt, but as of late last night and this morning my tush hurts so much, where the shot was given is hard, and then there is a marrk on my skin the spreads out form the shot site, and well, it really hurts a lot, it hurts to walk, to sit, to lay down, just to move ingeneral. is this normal? I hate to think that every shot will be like this, as i have to get them every other day, for the next week and a half. I am a little worried about this. any ideas?

yeah, they suck. a few hints: after the shot, make sure you move around. walk, go up and down the stairs a few times, swing your leg around so you are moving that muscle, etc. the goal is to dispurse the oil throughout the muscle so it doesnt just sit there in a knot. after you do that for a minute or two, apply HEAT! sit on a hot water bottle or heating pad. same idea here - the heat loosens things up and helps the oil dispurse. (i found that a nightly cup of ice cream during the heat phase helped too! )

also, vary up the location of the shot. i had to do them nightly for 12 weeks (bc of IVF) and i found that sometimes, i would start wandering too far from the ideal location. sometimes the difference of an inch or two in the injection site can make a big difference in the soreness level.

good luck!!

Make sure you're giving them in your hip, not your butt cheek. I made the mistake of doing it too low and had the same issues you're describing. Turn your torso sideways, take your hand opposite the hip you're aiming for and reach around. Go about 2-3 finger lengths below the top of your hipbone, and aim for there. Or, ask your nurse to draw with a sharpie on your hip a bulls eye for you to aim at.
The other thing it could be is a reaction to the oil. If you're not using it already, you can switch to ethelate? oil. I've never used it, but I hear it's easier on your body that whatever regular PIO is.
There are a few youtube videos on how to give the shot, maybe you could search them and make sure you're aiming at the right spot?

Its actually the nurse giving them to me, the doc was upset that my progesterone was so low and she wants to try and bring it up, so I go there everyother day for six shots. I'm on heat now, and the advil dulled the pain somewhat, this really sucks, I have to work tonight, and I got nothing done today, not even D's school work, blah!

I replied to your other thread. Sounds like an allergic reaction. Hopefully your doc can switch you to the other oil or sups, which i believe should help with the reaction.
