Sugar/Caffeine and 14 month old?

Thread Starter
my dd drinks cow milk twice at school, then nurses at 5pm, and all thru the evening and night

i'm dead tired all the time :yawningand have negative energy and have found myself resorting to coffee and mtn dew(seriously addicted)

how much of that sugar and caffeine does my dd get and could that be a reason why she is up so much at night?

thanks ya'll

okay so i dont know if this was just a coincidence, but when my daughter was a little over a year (maybe 12-13 months) i had a can of mt. dew. i NEVER drink caffiene like EVER, but that mt. dew was sounding so good, so i drank it. this was at 8pm. about a half hour later, i nursed dd before bed- and she was WIRED for the rest of the night. like stayed up till 1:30 am. woke up a few times in the night- etc. etc.
i havent drank caffiene since and she hasnt ever done that again.

coincidence? maybe.
but i'd rather not be up half the night again testing the theory.

I suppose it's possible and you could try to eliminate caffeine from your diet to test your theory. However, I would guess that it has less to do with the content of sugar or caffeine in your breast milk and more to do with your daughter reverse cycling.

It sounds like she is simply meeting her nutritional needs at night when you are available. And it's quite normal.

if you never have caffiene and then suddenly have it, you and your baby are much more sensitive to it than someone who has it regularly. It prolly was the MD that kept her up all night!

FWIW, I'm completely addicted to caffeine and my fourteen month old has slept through the night since birth. :

His older brother, on the other hand...*shudder*

Sounds like reverse cycling to me. Are you able to nurse and sleep at the same time?
