i did cry
lol

i was sitting here nursing our 1 mo old remembering my 3 weeks of no latch w/ dd1 & pumping, the sns feeder & how bad i wanted it. it was a stressful time but we got thru it w/ nothing but pumped milk & she just latched on one morning.

anyway-when Pam sat on the bench, i said to dh PLEASE let her latch on!!! ...and that she should take the damn coverup off-they are so hard to use-esp in the beginning!!!

That nurse was driving me crazy. If I was Pam, I would have wanted to go home just to get away from her. That said, I loved the episode overall! It was great to see her so committed to breastfeeding and I was so happy when she did it in the end I think Jim and Pam are going to be great parents.

On a side note... I was also happy to see Erin and Andy finally get their act together. It's about time!

Yeah! I was ticked off at the male LC! As if a man could possibly be taught all about breastfeeding!?!?

Loved the episode!! And was afraid they would pull a, "Good for Pam, she tried, but couldn't...so off to the bottles!". Thankfully, she persisted, and she did it!

One of my favorite episodes ever! I loved so much of it. DH and I were cracking up many times.

I can't believe she nursed the other couple's baby!! Hilarious, though.

Dwight was hilarious... and just what Pam and Jim need postpartum - a torn up kitchen and him in their hair.

nursing the wrong baby was hilarious!

i was actually really impressed. before the episode i was telling DH that I was sure I'd end up being annoyed by it. I'm so tired of shows where it's like, "OMG MY WATER BROKE!" and then immediate horrible contractions and screaming and a mad rush to the hospital. So I was really glad that it wasn't like that... she actually waited!

And the breastfeeding storyline was nice. I did think it was funny that she was trying to get the baby latched on for the first time, in the hospital, while using a nursing cover. But honestly, I've pretty much never ever ever seen anybody nursing on a sitcom, so whatever to the cover.

And they didn't want to just automatically send the baby to the nursery, which I thought was awesome.

The nurse reminded me of all the stories I've heard around here about horrible nurses.

Basically any complaints that I have would be really nitpicky things. And sitcoms rarely get all the details right in ANY storyline about anything.

However, I would have NEVER EVER EVER EVER let Michael drive me to the hospital!

i thought the nurse was a great indication of why people shouldn't deliver in hospitals. (and i totally had a rude nurse, so i didn't find it uinbelievabnle. LOVED All the nursing.

It was actually the most realistic of all the sitcom births Ive seen. The tired parents, the rude nurse, the rushing hospital, the everything not being perfect, etc.

Yes!

I think there must be someone a little crunchy on the writing staff. Remember Jan had a homebirth (and I think the actress Melora Hardin actually did IRL), and breastfeeding has been mentioned in a positive way a number of times on the show (Dwight's requirements for a wife are that she have big breasts--not for him, but because Schrute babies are unusually thirsty ).

In any case, I LOVE that Pam labored a long time before going in and didn't even rush in when her water broke, no drugs were mentioned (by her, Kelly mentioned an epidural) and that she was determined to breastfeed despite the nurse that needed a good slap.

I really liked this episode! I thought that the birth was handled well for a sitcom and I loved the breastfeeding stuff! Could have done without the cover though. Someone was just asking me about that kind of cover with the "hoop" at the top to hold it more open. Good product placement there. So disappointed they didn't show any cloth diapers in Jim's diapering scenes. Now if only she would bring the baby to work, or maybe Michael will offer 3 years of paid maternity leave! Or Jim will quit to stay home with the baby. Let's see some modern parenting. They're never getting into that daycare anyway

I had a hospital birth and it was pretty accurate, having to share a room and being urged to use the nursery, wheelchair exit, etc. There were a lot more beeping machines and IV bottles when I was there so it was nice to see it not like a medical emergency.

The other story lines were funny too, definitely my favorite episode in a long time.

I haven't been watching the last few years, but I did catch it last night. It was great!

My first daughter was born at the hospital she's portrayed at (and when you catch glimpses of the signs, they are the exact same signs) and my second is Cecilia. I guess Pam idolizes me?

I didn't have to share a room, and the LC wasn't a guy... but I did get that nurse. Or maybe her mom, because mine was about 50.

I also thought it was very realistic that she had nursing trouble until she got out of that environment, and then everything was great.

I loved the episode too.

And about the cover... how else would they have done it with a baby that isn't actually nursing? They can't show naked boob on regular television and I'm sure a baby of that age would not be pleased to actually latch on to a boob that was not lactating!

They probably could have done it with camera angles. But I actually think the cover added to the humor of it, because it was so clearly ridiculous.

I was really bracing myself during last night's episode. I was so afraid it was going to be the typical ridiculous sitcom portrayel of birth. I was pleased with how it turned out, and also really thankful that I have not had to give birth in a hospital!

The whole time I wanted to give Pam a hug and tell her it was going to be okay and "here, let me help you honey...." I had to keep reminding myself that it is just a show!

.
Didn't they show a woman pumping at her desk? Back when two of the branches merged, the whole Karen plot-line and such. It was really silly, but still gets props for showing a mother pumping at work.

LOVED the episode. I keep thinking about it. I honestly think I'm going to write a letter, not sure to who, but I need to tell SOMEONE how much I appreciate what they did. I can't think of any show that has ever portrayed birth and breastfeeding in such a realistic way. If only every tv show handled it the way The Office did, maybe it would honestly make a difference in our breastfeeding culture. Maybe it would help the general public see breastfeeding as the normal, natural way to nourish our children. I also want to ask that they write future episodes in a way that show Pam continuing to nurse the baby. Maybe we should start a Lactivism letter writing campaign?

Michael: "That baby's going to have a lot of hair!"

laughed out loud at that one!

I'm pretty sure Angela nursed her own baby on the set...I feel like there was a video online somewhere where she talks about it. I have no idea where, though, so I'm not much help

I wonder if this is going to be one of those shows where now that the baby is here she just sort of disappears. Of course, since it is based in an office it would be way more excusable in this case. But, for instance on Friends when Rachel has her baby you very very rarely see the baby unless the episode revolved around the baby in some way.

My sister sent me an article earlier today about how they got the name for the baby on the show. It's the actual name of Jenna Fischer's new niece!
