frozen pp pads

So I made the sitz bath and dipped overnight menstraul pads and froze them. Now they are solid! How does this work? Do I let them thaw a little when I need them and they become more pliable or what? Was I just supposed to spray on some herbal stuff? I am just totally confused on how this works.

yeah, let them thaw a little bit so they're not like ice cubes. Then I would sit on top of it on a chux pad. They feel soooooo good.

I don't think you were supposed to get the entire pad wet, just drip the prepared fluid (whatever it is, comfrey herbs, plain water, something else soothing) onto the absorbent part of the pad and then freeze it.

But, I've never made my own, I really like the ones that hospital gives that you bend to activate.

One of my friends makes comfrey pads, though, and I think she said that she opens the absorbent part of the pad and puts the comfrey in it, drips water on it, then freezes it. ?? I hope I'm remembering that right

which pads do you use for all this? I just spent a fortune on heavy duty always overnight ones; but I'd rather use something cheaper for the 'crotch pops'.

Probably just a Kotex overnight maxi pad. But I think any brand of overnight would work. You could try the thinner ones, I just thought thicker ones would be better for the lochia too.

Oh okay. This makes sense. I guess I won't be up and around any way. So you don't really put them in underwear, right?

DDC Crashing here... I have always put mine in my underwear straight out of the freezer with no problem. You're pretty "warm" in that area, so they tend to defrost very quickly! I've always liked that super cold feeling at first though. OH, and to make them, I've always just sort of dribbled the comfrey tea over the top of the pad, so they're saturated, but have never dipped the whole pad in the liquid. I also use the Kotex Ultra Thin Long pads so they're very thin an comfy and not bulky at all though.

I made some using witch hazel on pads and newborn sposies. When you pull them out of the freezer you sort of bend them and then place them in your undies. Ahhhh, they feel sooooo good right after birth.

My midwives use sposies as well. That way no matter what size you you are they will fit. Plus they are much wider to accomodate your swollen labia, vulva anus etc. Also, the diapers are great because they don't have a sticky backing to possibly stick in all of the "wrong" places.

Our hospital uses nb sposies- soaked w/water and frozen solid. I think the width is way better than regular pads, too. And they feel amazing right after birth! I like the idea of an after-birth solution of herbs much better than plain water, though.

I used some of the big pads that came with my birth kit to freeze. I bought some nice big Always to use the rest of the time.

I plan to stay in bed sans undies sitting on a chux pad for a good while anyway.

Larger absorbant pads backed with plastic. I'm sure you've seen them before. They are used by Drs and hospitals all the time. You can buy them in any drugstore near the incontinence supplies.

I saturate my pads with comfrey tea and freeze them the coldness on the perineum is so nice--it is only really cold for a minute or 2
...wearing one now!!!
