a few Rh questions

I am going to UC this time around. I am A neg and DH is A pos. I had the 28 week Rhogam and the post birth shot with DS (born in a birth center). I don't want the 28 week shot this time at all, but I'm toying with the idea of the post birth shot, and with the idea of blood typing the baby after birth. Do I have to stick the baby to do that, or can I use cord blood for it? What are the chances something bad will happen next time around, or this time? You can get medical term-y on me, I was in nursing school for a few years and do a lot of lay research on the side for fun. Thanks!

And how do I get the Rhogam shot on my own if I want it? Does it have to be prescribed by a MW? I'm still hunting for a MW to attend but not assist, I'm 20 weeks so I have some time left to find one. Just to have her hang out in the living room while I do my thing with the doula. (DH doesn't want to be there).

I got the 28 weeks shot with my son and my twins, a shot after my miscarriage and a shot after DS. No shot with the twins since they are A-. This time I did not get the 28 weeks shot and am planning to use my Eldon card with some cord blood to type his blood. If he's + i'll see my gyno for a shot and if he's - I'll not bother. It doesn't really matter either way I suppose since this is my last baby, but I do want to get it JIC. My gyno doesn't KNOW i'd be coming in for a shot but I figure they wouldn't turn me away either. Probably just give me a stern talking to about being reckless and homebirthing. I could have my MW order it for me but I'd like my insurance to cover it and it won't if she does the injection.

I'm planning on using cord blood and an eldon card. However, I called around to all the OB's, clinics, and the hospital, and not one of them will give me a rhogam shot unless I bring the baby in to get typed. I am extremely uncomfortable doing that... but I guess I'll do what I gotta do, I guess. I got the 28 week shot with my first, but none after the birth, since she turned out to be Rh-. I didn't get the 28 week shot this time, and I can only hope that this baby is also Rh-.

Last time I birthed in a birth center but my midwives didn't have the Rhogam shot. So the next day I went to my local ER and explained the situation. It took FOR-E-VER but I finally got my shot and they didn't have to see the baby. I refused to bring her into the germ infested ER. lol

Probably what I will do again this time, might even go to the same ER just because I know they will do it even though they are an hour away from me now. Just have my 16yo or someone sit with the baby in the car. We'll see. I'm going to use an Eldon card to type her blood too before I do anything naturally, no point in getting a shot you don't need.

(LOL Listen to me referring to the baby as "her" already, I'm only 8 wks and have no clue what sex the baby is. I already have 4 girls though, so I have a pretty good guess!)
