TMI alert - Chlorophyll

So my hemoglobin was low last time the mw checked it and she told me to take liquid chlorophyll to help get it up quickly... I call it "the green death drink" and am doing a shot glass of it every morning. (ewww)

anywho.... there is just something entirely wrong with #2 being kelly green.

That is all.

You're probably okay. When I was taking the liquid Chlorophyll, I just did two squirts of it into about a 1/2 glass of water and it wasn't quite so bad. Are you sure you aren't taking too much? I can't even imagine doing a shot of it straight without mixing it with water! Ick.

taking the recommended dose per my mw. I tried watering it down and just couldn't force myself to drink it that way. Goes down better faster... then I chase it with water.

Oh yes, since my PP hemorrhage I know ALL about the wonders of liquid chlorophyll, Floradix and very green #2, lol. And since I was so severely anemic, I was taking 3x the normal daily dosage of both of them -- fun, fun! I've finally cut back to the regular dosage now that my hemoglobin and hematocrit have started to recover. I take mine in about an oz of juice, btw -- helps mask that metallic taste, imo.

Okay, so here's another really TMI tidbit about chlorophyll: when I was still pumping breastmilk around the clock about a week after Duncan's birth (and while I was still taking tons of this stuff), I noticed something small and dark floating in one of my pumping bottles immediately after a pumping session. At first I thought DH had forgotten to properly clean the bottle and so I was going to dump it all out, when I unscrewed the top and peered in and noticed that whatever it was, it was *greenish*. Now more intrigued than grossed out, I fished into the bottle with my pinky finger and brought out a pea-sized glob of fat (remember this was in early days, when my milk was still transitional from colostrum, full of fat, and even richer b/c my little guy was preterm.) The fat was GREEN, mamas! Green!

So yeah, that chlorophyll is some potent stuff, I tell you!

I never figured out why chlorophyll is touted for it's effects on helping anemia. Chlorophyll molecules don't contain iron. Maybe it's all the other stuff that might be in WITH the chlorophyll? Are there any websites that talk about this? My MW wanted me to take it in my last pregnancy, but I didn't. FWIW, I studied chlorophyll while working for a research project in college.

My MW recommends 2 Tbsp a day during pregnancy and up to 4 Tbsp in the last trimester. I totally hear ya!
