Another help me find this book thread

So I'm trying to remember the name of this book I probably read a dozen times in grade school. This was mid 80's. I'm pretty sure it was an apple paperback. The basic plot is some new girl in school who is overweight and gets teased a lot. Someone befriends her, she eventually loses weight and it ends with some slumber party scene or something. I'm sure it's just terrible and is something I would not want my own daughter reading, but I'm still dying to remember what is was called. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the overweight girl has blonde curly hair and would be such a pretty girl if she weren't so chubby... Anyway, sound familiar to anyone?

I vaguely remember it, I know that I liked it a lot, but I can't recall many details. There's a sequel too, How Do You Lose Those Ninth Grade Blues.

I think I will have to look for those at the library!

I still have this book tucked away in a box. It was good.

I bought from a school book fair with my allowance money.

Barthe DeClements is great. She also wrote Fourth Grade Wizards, Sixth Grade Can Really Kill You, and Seventeen and In-Between
