My daughter is only two, but she (we) have a few friends from church who have three-year-olds. I am friends with their parents on facebook. They have just had their first day of preschool. One posted on how her son didn't want to talk about his first day at school. I'd assume it wasn't in a traumatized way (although that's possible I suppose) but more in a "jeez, quit with the questions, already, and leave me alone!" way. Her other friends commented on her post that they are all experiencing the same thing with their new preschoolers, someone said "and so it begins
", and someone else said "wait until they are teenagers and hole themselves up in their bedrooms for a whole year!"
Um, no thanks. I can teach my daughter everything she needs to know at home, and we can do fun things and hang out with other kids, too. I don't feel the need to "separate" us unnecessarily at such a young age. I'm super glad my dh agreed to keep her home for her preschool years (only because he doesn't want to pony up the money for it). I hope I can convince him to keep on with it after she turns five.
(I hope nobody who has chosen preschool for their kids takes offense to this. I'm just saying that it's not something I'd chose for my family.)
