Looking for a penpal for my 7 year old.

We’re on the unschooling postcard group which is awesome for learning about other places, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar group for kids looking for good old fashioned pen pals? DS is 7 and up until now hasn’t been all that interested in writing, so I think this would be a fun motivation as he LOVES getting mail! Anyone know of anything or maybe even interested in starting something up?

EDIT:

I’ll add some info about my son in case anyone just wants to do the pen pal thing through this thread! PM me if you think your kiddo might be interested

Ok, DS is 7 and some of his interests are- Getting mail, of course Star wars, video games, X-men and all of the other super hero type stuff, cars, hotwheels, building things, legos, transformers, movies, nature, bugs, birds, animals, his kitten, the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty Cooking, eating… He's also a cubscout this year so that's a big interest; all things scout related. I'm sure I'm missing some stuff, but he likes pretty much anything really!

They are doing a post card exchange right now. I need to get on it too...

We used to have a master "I'm looking for a pen pal" thread here but it got out of date all the time... so people since then have just been starting threads to find pen pals. You could retitle this "Looking for a pen pal for my 7 year old son" and add a post with sme info about his interests and see what happens...

Yep, we are there, too.

I was wondering the same thing, Vermillion, about a pen pal group. It's nice to have that continuous correspondence so they can get to know more about the other person.

Vermillion I have a ds who is 7 and is into just about everything you mentioned about your ds (not big into cooking but loves to eat!)

I will run it by him - I would love it if he wanted to write something!!!

We are on the West coast of Canada.

Hello,

I'm not sure if you have found a pen pal yet, but my son is 7 and would love a pen pal. He loves Star Wars, cooking(well mostly baking), he just joined Boy Scouts this year - he's a Wolf. He is also very into History and Science. We live in Massachusetts.

We aren't HS or US (DD is in PS), but she'd love a penpal as well. She's 7 (2nd grade) and is into music, art, reading, math, soccer and her kitten.

My dd is 8 and would love a penpal! She is not a girly girl, also loves all things transformers etc..... loves gymnastics and farm stuff. This is a great idea! I"ve thought about it a few times, i think it would motivate her to write more as well.

I have two DD's (8 and almost 12) who I'm sure would love to get real mail. We are new to homeschooling this year (in fact my oldest finally decided just last night that she was ready to). I'll PM some of the others with similar ages. I do think they'd both prefer to have another girl penpal. They both love gymnastics, Harry Potter, animals of all kinds, reading, music. Typical girl stuff.

The farm stuff stuck out at me, lol. My kids are very into that stuff, esp. since we live on a small farm.

I think everyone ought to pm anyone who is interesting and get the ball rolling!

My daughter (10.5) is VERY into animals/sea life, etc. We just went behind the scenes at Seaworld to feed and touch stingrays and touch a shark.

I haven't heard from anyone yet. Is anyone really interested in doing this, or should I look elsewhere? My kids would really love to get started!
