I'm a "very smart woman", so says my OB :)

Had my 39 week OB appt this morning (sigh, yes, 39...I've never seen that number!) The nurse asked me if I wanted the dr to check me, I said no. She then asked if I've been having any contractions, I said "yep, every day, but they fizzle out" She said "that many contractions and you don't want him to check you?" I said "nope, it'll just depress me or get my hopes up."

Then the dr walks in and says "Samantha, you're a very smart woman." Um, why? He says that for years he's been trying to convince women not to get checks because he knows they mean nothing and can be painful. I said "Well then tell your nurse not to offer!! She almost tried to convince me to do it!"

We talked about when my other babies were born, how big they were, how the labors went, etc, but he didn't say a word this time about induction or size of baby or anything. He did comment that baby was "very easy" to palpate, and I pointed to him a sore spot on my pelvis and told him that I think baby's shoulder is stuck there, and he said "yep, that's a shoulder alright, your baby is one the easiest to palpate I've ever felt!" I told him that I've been trying to dislodge baby, spent some time in the shower last night on my hands and knees with my butt up in the air, and he got a good laugh out of that.

My BP was still fine (116/70 something) but I've gained 4 pounds this week, yikes!!! He didn't mention a thing about that either, though.

He's the one on call from tonight to Monday morning, so he said he's looking forward to seeing me come in sometime this weekend. I said "that makes two of us!!"

Good one Dr. H! You are I are soo much alike this pregnancy. I am supposed to have my 39 week appt. today too. My MW just called and we chated for some time. I got her to put off my appt. until early next week if I don't have a baby this weekend So, here's hoping that us OH mamas have a weekend baby!!

Wouldn't it be funny, Melissa, if we did deliver on the same day??!

I forgot to say...he noticed on my chart that my husband had his vasectomy already, and I said "YES, thank god!" and he laughed and said "yikes, my vas hurt just talking about it!" I said "Are you seriously going to say something like that to a woman who is 39 weeks pregnant???!!!" He laughed and started bowing down to me, said "I have the utmost respect for you women!"

Then I told him that my husband dared to complain to me after the surgery that he had to be in stirrups and it was horrible, and the dr laughed and said "he does know what you women go through, right?"

Then he asked me if I'm this much fun when I'm in labor, and I said "hopefully you'll find out this weekend."

I have this issue, too! It's something that has been going on for a while, but I can clearly feel her 'resting' inside my right hip. I almost wonder if that could hold up labor? Normally, I don't worry/think about stuff like that at all, but it's just so consistently lodged in there! I need to ask my MW tomorrow at my 40 week appt.

Sounds like you had a great visit! And I agree - why the heck do they offer if they don't think it's a good idea?!? That makes no sense! LOL!

Here's to having lots of babies this weekend! I told my hubby as he left this morning that this may be his last day driving to work for a while.

My 39 weeks appt is today too! and I am thinking of holding off the cervical check (if they even ask) for another week. Not sure what good it will do me besides getting excited if there is some dilation. . .but then that doesn't really mean anything anyway as your Dr. pointed out.

I am thinking that my babe really wants to be a Libra and is going to wait for his due date to arrive. Sigh. So I probably have to survive at least another week of this pregnancy.

Good luck with a weekend delivery. It sounds like this is the doc I would want to have on call! I am hoping for a birth story from you by monday! And I think hands and knees in the shower is a great idea! Help that baby get into abetter position!
