Had my 39 week OB appt this morning (sigh, yes, 39...I've never seen that number!) The nurse asked me if I wanted the dr to check me, I said no. She then asked if I've been having any contractions, I said "yep, every day, but they fizzle out" She said "that many contractions and you don't want him to check you?" I said "nope, it'll just depress me or get my hopes up."
Then the dr walks in and says "Samantha, you're a very smart woman." Um, why? He says that for years he's been trying to convince women not to get checks because he knows they mean nothing and can be painful. I said "Well then tell your nurse not to offer!! She almost tried to convince me to do it!"
We talked about when my other babies were born, how big they were, how the labors went, etc, but he didn't say a word this time about induction or size of baby or anything. He did comment that baby was "very easy" to palpate, and I pointed to him a sore spot on my pelvis and told him that I think baby's shoulder is stuck there, and he said "yep, that's a shoulder alright, your baby is one the easiest to palpate I've ever felt!" I told him that I've been trying to dislodge baby, spent some time in the shower last night on my hands and knees with my butt up in the air, and he got a good laugh out of that.
My BP was still fine (116/70 something) but I've gained 4 pounds this week, yikes!!! He didn't mention a thing about that either, though.
He's the one on call from tonight to Monday morning, so he said he's looking forward to seeing me come in sometime this weekend. I said "that makes two of us!!"
